Today is the day that my husband and I close on our sweet log cabin on the water at Fishhawk Lake. Always a momentous day for new homeowners!
This will be our new office for my continuing real estate business at Fishhawk Lake and it offers clients a peek at what they, too could own here in my neck-of-the-woods!
Often when new buyers of mine come to see the lake for the first time, this is the picture they have in their minds. Steeped in history, the log cabin probably pulls at our heritage, deeply embedded in memories from generations ago. Did you know that it goes back to 3500 BC?
Historically log cabin construction has its roots in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Although their origin is uncertain, the first log structures were probably being built in Northern Europe by the Bronze Age (about 3500 BC).
Log cabins take maintenance, as do all treasured homesteads, but depending upon how the log cabin is built you will have different types of maintenance. Granted, it takes more upkeep on the exterior than do homes with T-111 for example, which many have as their exterior at Fishhawk Lake, but ohhhh, it is SO worth it for many of us who crave those handhewn logs, and the warmth and texture it offers that takes us back to a basic feeling that can be hard to describe, but so often crops up with my buyers and pulls at them in a romantic way!
Log cabins also offer more warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer because of the logs themselves. Once a log home is heated, it maintains the heat really well, and keeps the cool inside during the hot summer months. Having a woodstove or propane stove to generate warmth is both efficient and pulls at the senses for those who crave being surrounded by earthtones, wooden walls, a warm fire and the joy of just being in the woods, on a lake, in a simple setting.
On this special day, I can personally feel the excitement that I get to generate for my buyers who come to look for a log cabin on Fishhawk Lake. Come join me, won't you??
