What an amazing holiday and just in time! February 1st is both National Freedom Day and ... No Politics Day! Is that a fabulous combination or what?
According to www.holidayinsights.com, Major Richard Robert Wright Sr., a former slave, created National Freedom Day, a day when ALL Americans can celebrate freedom. As President Lincoln signed the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery on Feb. 1, 1865, National Freedom Day is celebrated on Feb. 1st. On June 30, 1948, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming February 1st at National Freedom Day.
During a time of emotional turbulence in the United States following the inauguration of the 45th president of America, Bob Matthews of Rochester, New York came up with and established the much-needed No Politics Day on February 1st.
