It's the week-end before Valentine's Day and many are thinking of indulging in a special dining expereience over the week-end. Hearts, wine and romance ♥♥ are in the air! Where to dine over this weekend? How about a special spot whispered in the Austin Chronicle that says it's where “Victorian and mid-century modern meet in a contemporary space.” Sound interesting? Why not give it a try?
EBERLY AND THE CEDAR TAVERN http://eberlyaustin.com
First, a little history behind the Eberly…in 1842, a local innkeeper named Angelina Eberly stood up to President Sam Houston and the Texas Rangers by firing a cannon. She did that to fend off a rebellion so that Austin would remain as the capital of Texas. Eberly and The Cedar Tavern was founded by a group of Austinites as a tribute to Angelina and a reminder that Austin is still worth fighting for. Eberly is a collection of dining, drinking and thinking spaces that offers a dining room, a welcoming study, a rooftop terrace overlooking downtown and the historic and stunning Cedar Tavern Bar of Greenwich Village in NYC with the original mahogany bar.
The Dining Room offers contemporary American cuisine with timeless favorites with a modern spin. Everything out of the kitchen is made from scratch from modern dishes like Tuna Tartare, Red Snapper Crudo and Wood Roasted Oysters Angelina made with spinach, crème, pork belly in an olive oil tomato preserve with parmesan. On the meatier side, you’ll find the Venison and Quail dish with Axis Venison, iberico bacon, grilled quail with huckleberry preserves and pickled cabbage. In the Cedar Tavern, there’s classic cocktails and local craft beers where you can munch on Short Rib sliders with pickled onion on house made brioche or the Tavern Burger – a griddled beef burger with cheddar sauce, tomato and lettuce on a house made brioche bun.
The Study connects the tavern to the dining room and serves as a coffee shop and working space by day and an extension of the tavern at night. It houses a collection of 500 books and patrons are encouraged to make the space their own as a gathering spot to relax, think, work and create throughout the day. The Rooftop Terrace is a 4,000 sq. ft. space that overlooks downtown. It offers its own bar and garden growing fresh herbs and produce that bartenders can then use in making their unique dishes and cocktails. So be sure to stop by and check out Eberly and the Cedar Tavern listed as one of the best spots in Austin by DO512!
