Desire is not enough (Sales)

Napolean Hill wrote that "Desire is the starting point for all achievement."

I once read (cannot remember the source; think it is Dr. Norman Vincent Peale) "If God has given you a desire, He has also given you the ability to fulfill that desire."

I have met a lot of people who seem to have desire but I have watched them not succeed; not fulfill their desires.

So, how to achieve if Desire is not enough? There are a couple of mental considerations and disciplines that come into play. (1) if the "inner talk" is in conflict with the desire, "inner talk" will win. This is a battle for many and that is why it is wise to spend thinking time - time to write down the goal and nourish the goal (desire) with positive affirmations. Spending quiet time writing affirmations is a valuable tool for success.

(2) If the desire and imagination are in conflict; imagination will win.Suppose someone were to offer you $1,000 to walk 10 feet on a plank that is 100 feet long and 3 feet wide. No problem - that is an easy $1,000, Now suppose the offer is the same and the plank is the same but suddenly it is raised 100 feel and is supported by two high towers. Most people will not accept the offer because imagination says 'you will fall" and fear takes over.

Create something just for fun; a car, a trip, a large check. Close your eyes and really get relaxed. See the situation as it is now. Completely erase the picture from your mind until there is blank. Suppose you want new living room furniture. Image the current living room. Then mentally move everything out of the room and imagine the room vacant. Now mentally place the new furniture. Do this until you can see it and do it every day and several times a day. Do it until you can see the new furniture and get excited about it. You will be surprised at how quickly the Mind will create the condition that you want
