PoofMost everyone dreams of home ownership but there are many things that can make that dream go poof.

The dream can be destroyed during home ownership as well as even before the dream materializes.

How can that happen? Lots of ways but I will just name a few. House18

There has been a lot of talk lately about a possible interest rate hike. An interest rate hike could create enough of an increase in the monthly home payment to put ownership just out of reach for some potential home owners.

Local circumstances can change, in example, a new employer or industry may come to town bringing a large influx of people to town. That of course is going to draw down inventory. Supply and demand is what drives prices for every product including houses. With supply down prices are going to go up.

Of course there are things people can do that sabotage their own quest for home ownership. When ever you are home shopping your Realtor (if you have a good one) will tell you NOT to make any major purchases until you have found the right house and you have CLOSED on the house. It's

Monster trucksurprising how many people blow it when they learn how much they can borrow so they run out and buy that little sports car or monster truck because they figure they can afford it and the house.

Sorry! When the bank sees what you have done they are going to drop your home loan like a hot potato.

Buyers do have to keep all their credit stable, and scary when they start talking about a new car!

Hi Bob, it is so essential for a home purchaser using financing to keep their priorities straight - Home first; thn new car, furniture, and other stuff on credit come later.  John and Kat

We hear about people making this serious mistake so often Bob, just have to keep warning each buyer to cut up their credit cards until after closing.

Bob Crane that reminds of of the blog post of actually dropping the cards into water and freezing them so one has to really think any new purchases through.

Good morning Bob.  I've had it happen to me twice.  Most listen however, two did not.

Cautions early on...SOMETIMES prevent this from happening...now and then the "furnish the whole house first" person will appear and foil their own success.

Yup, and every lender I know also drives this point home Sally K. & David L. Hanson so they get it from me and the lender... yet every once in a while there is an oops.

I always make sure to educate my buyers. I tell them to put their credit cards away and not to use them until after they've closed on their home. So far my clients have listened, but I have heard those stories from those that don't listen.

Yes, some people just don't listen Debbie Laity . I think in the last dozen years I've only had one but that was enough.
