Scheduling Strategies for Real Estate Emails

Can you improve your real estate email campaign open rates with strategic scheduling? According to a recent article in Entrepreneur magazine, you can! We’re sharing the highlights with you here, along with our own insights!

An industry analysis of email campaigns found that sending messages during certain days of the week, and during certain times of day, can improve your open rates. Getting the timing right depends on the type of message!

For example, emails that feature hobby and recreational content do best when delivered on the weekends. The optimal time of day for hobby and recreational emails is early morning between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

How does this help you with real estate marketing? While buying a home isn’t a hobby, plenty of potential home buyers (and potential sellers) are curious about open houses and new listings. Sending these announcements on a Saturday morning could prove most effective.

If you’re sending email campaigns to current homeowners, Saturday mornings could be the best time to send home maintenance and improvement tips, DIY project ideas, garden tips and so on.

The study found that emails featuring business news, government topics and non-profit messages do best between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The best days of the week for these types of messages are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Appling this to real estate email campaigns, these may be your best windows for sending market updates and statistics.

Business-to-business marketing messages do best in early mornings before the workday begins. This suggests that relocation service messages to H.R. departments, and emails to industry peers, strategic partners and other associates, would do best when delivered weekdays before 8:00 a.m.

One of the best suggestions we can offer from our own experience, is to change up your email campaign delivery schedule periodically, rather than run the exact same schedule each time. Also remember that more email is being read on mobile devices! Make sure your messages contain valuable content, and optimize them for quick, easy reading from a smartphone.

I read articles like this quite often and wonder: what's the rate of return by sticking with a schedule that matches the study? They always say it's better to communicate between certain hours, but they don't provide the results. Does it result in a 15% increase in traffic or 22.3% increase in sales? I would honestly like to know if it's worth it.
