ActiveRain is challenging us this month to share two of our favorite tools or systems. I have many but have narrowed it down to two that I use all the time.
Much of my day is spent behind the computer when I am not out in the real world with clients. I spend time researching properties, setting showings, doing market analysis, and of course blogging in AR.
A few years ago, my husband decided that my daily routines would be much easier with two monitors. He hooked up a spare and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Now I can have MLS open on one screen and ActiveRain on the other. If I am generating market reports, I have all of the valuable information at my fingertips. My monitors are not exactly the same size but I don't care. They both work great and that is all that matters.
Just a few days ago, I asked my husband if he could hook up yet another monitor so I would have three monitors to switch back and forth. He told me that my computer does not have a third video port and I would really need a new computer to accommodate this request. My response was something like "So, what's the problem?"
Another tool that I use all the time is a simple tool that ships with Window (any flavor).
Snipping Tool is something that I just love.
This can be found by clicking on the start button on the bottom left of your screen. Scroll down to Windows Accessories and expand that selection. Snipping Tool is in there and you can send it to your desktop or pin it to your task bar depending on which version of Windows you are running.
I use Snipping Tool when I want to make a copy of something on my screen. This is very helpful when I want to copy a section of a contract or make a copy of a chart I have created in Excel, etc.
Just click on NEW and select what type of snip you want. I usually select rectangle snip. Once you have selected your area, you can highlight it - email it - copy it or save it. I usually Save it as a jpg and use it to insert in a blog or attach it to an email.
Here's an example of a SNIP.
You'll notice I didn't snip the entire page. I only selected what I wanted to save as an image.
This is the easiest and quickest way to share information with someone without jumping through major hoops.
There are so many tools available to us these days. There are countless apps on our phones that help us in our day to day jobs. I can't say how many times I have used my Flashlight app in the field or even the Level app while showing houses.
I think back to 1996 when I first earned my real estate license and all I can say is we've come a long way baby!
