Moving Forward Past Fear

This morning I decided to read from an inspirational magazine that I used to get monthly. I had an old one and randomly picked a day for its affirmation. Ironically it spoke to exactly what I am working through at this very moment and the title was “Freedom From Fear”. After reading it, I had an aha moment. Many of my reactions to life’s challenges, to my own ego have been based in fear.

Fear of people disliking me. Fear of making a mistake. Fear of not having love reciprocated. Fear of incremental disagreements, and fear of speaking out against them and of being ostracized.

Those who say they fear nothing are possibly showing us the way through to the other side, leading us in a forward direction as if to say, I’ve been there and I’ve made it through, so can you.

The author, Jack Canfield states, “Everything you want is on the other side of fear”. Fear is not necessarily innate, but a learned response as we go through life. Love is innate, as author Marianne Williamson says: “love is what we are born with. Fear is what we have learned here. The spiritual journey is unlearning the fear and the acceptance of love back in our hearts.”

That love may just be what’s needed for inner work to happen. Embrace those who want to harm with acceptance for the journey they are on, as they, too may be reacting simply to the fears of their own creation. You are just the vessel for their fear to be carried on. You can choose to carry it or leave it.

Look at Martin Luther King, Gandhi. They were fearless against monumental odds. They chose to love and embrace their naysayers, who were all reacting from a standpoint of fear and thus anger. Facing their own fears, even of potential death and moving through those created great change in the world.

Today, you have the energy to create love or fear. It’s the same energy inside you, which one will you choose?

Hi Gayle!

As someone that may be dealing with a few fear issues myself right now, I have found this post to be thought provoking.   It is easy to say that I opt to ignore fear.   Leaving fear behind, in an honest and sincere way,  does not seem to be as easy at it sounds when the source can't be fully identified.  After all, like you,  in many areas I am fearless.

I will have to re-read this again later.

I hope that you have a great weekend.

p.s.  GREAT photograph!

A good message in the blog.  I won't say I'm fearless, but I seldom face a task that I do not feel I cannot get done.

Hi Gayle -- interesting post and lots of great comments too which is one of the many things I like most about this forum.  Fear can have a paralyzing impact on moving forward.   Identifying it is quite important and moving beyond it is even more important.  Rarely easy but definitely necessary.

Gayle- I am so grateful that Carol Williams featured this in her Second Chance Saturday post. When my nieces were younger, I would ask them "What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?"  I'm not sure who said that, but it's a favorite of mine.

I used to be so afraid of standing in front of people and speaking. it mad eme so uncomfortablee that my lip would quiver. To help combat the fear I took a speech classes in college and Dale Carnegie classes later. Then even later on in my real estate career I volunteered to speak to clubs and companiesacross town for the Chamber of Commerce. It a very uncomfortable experience but I vowed I would continue until it no longer made me jittery.

Now I can say the fear has mostly passed and I can speak without shaking in my boots. Practice and moving through it does work.

Have to have the love for what you do ;) I am ok speaking and maybe it is all the speaking on planes as lead on all my flights. Then, my former life I was a speaker at many conferences in the software field. As COO, the first few times were not too smooth, but I caught on.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

What a wonderful post, and so true. Fear literally can keep us from our joy. When I'm feeling out of whack, I say to myself, " I am out of alignment with my power, I choose love instead of this." It works to get my head back to love and to my heart. Fear doesn't have a chance to grow where there is love, compassion, and acceptance.

Hi Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905, fear can be our worst enemy if we let it. Nothing wrong to have fear as long as we continue to move forward, not let it paralyze us.

"Everything you want is on the other side of fear," is a bold and powerful statement! The way I see it, fear of letting go will sabotage your life. Until you take a risk, you'll be a prisoner of your own fear.
