Monterey Hills Local Issues Meeting
On Thursday, February 9, 2017 the Monterey Hills Local Issues Meeting will
be held in the Linden Heights Recreation/Meeting Room - 4200 Via Marisol in the hilltop community of Monterey Hills(Los Angeles 90042). The meeting is
scheduled to begin at 7PM.
Monterey Hills is a member of the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council(ASNC) which also includes the communities of Hermon, Montecito Heights, Mount Washington and Sycamore Grove.
According to the ASNC their purpose is, in part, to provide a forum for discussion and engage stakeholders in deliberation and collaboration on matters affecting the community. Informing and educating the community of forthcoming projects, events and resources available is also a part of this purpose.
On the agenda is California Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez. Mr Gomez is running in the special election to replace former Congressman Xavier Becerra who recently resigned to become the Attorney General for the state of California. I do hope he addresses some of the local issues that are of concern to the residents he currently serves.
An update on Parcel S(which is the first photo in this post) is also scheduled. Parcel S was sold in 2016. It had been owned by CRA/LA - Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles until the state dissolved the organization a few years ago. Since the open space project was only in the planning stage, it had never been developed. A representative of the new owner attended a meeting in the Fall and it was announced at the January 2017 that a representative would return to answer questions and give an update.
A discussion is scheduled regarding Hermon leaving the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council and forming their own independent neighborhood council. The feeling at the meeting in January is that this would not have a positive impact on the Monterey Hills community which would be isolated from the other remaining areas of the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council.
While I have attended Monterey Hills Local Issues on an occasional basis, I started to attend on a more regular basis in 2016. While the turnout is not usually large, it is good to see that people are willing to give up some of their time to stay informed of what is happening in the community. Typical meetings include reports from the Los Angeles lead officer for the area and a representative from the city council.
Monterey Hills is a planned hilltop community of various individual condominium and townhome complexes along with one single family home
development. While it has easy access to multiple freeways and two Gold Line light rail stations, the community remains somewhat under-the-radar when it comes to awareness since it is only residential.
If you are interested in learning more about the issues facing Monterey Hills, I suggest you attend a meeting. Local Issues Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month.
