We already know February 10th is a very special day because it’s your birthday! And there’s another important reason today is one of the most special dates of the year.
That’s because it’s also the same day of the 2006 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Turin, Italy!
The first Italian city to host the Olympics since the 1960 Rome games, Turin greeted 2,508 athletes who competed in 84 events in seven sports.
Several new sports made their Olympic debut in Turin including the mass start biathlon, team sprint cross country skiing, snowboard cross and team pursuit speedskating.
The Olympics Games now feature more than 27,000 elite athletes from more than 200 countries competing in 28 sports, giving them the opportunity to compare themselves against athletes of a similar level on an international stage.
A vehicle of hope, the Olympic values of striving for excellence, demonstrating respect and celebrating friendship are all aimed at promoting peace and for all nations to be able to come together and compete against each other in unity.
As you celebrate your birthday remember that your day is extra special because it symbolizes worldwide cooperation and the achievement of lifelong dreams!
