What I love about my job . . .

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Cornerstone Business Group Inc 0225086119

What do I love about my job? Most things, actually. I love the freedom to set my schedule, choose my clients and to employ my skills as an investor, contractor and broker. Those are the simple things, but there are others.

  • I love seeing that home-buyer light up when she finds that "perfect" home she wasn't sure existed.
  • I love seeing that first-time buyer receive the keys to his/her first home. It's magical.
  • I love negotiating a deal that not only benefits my client, but that also shocks my client. That puts a big smile on my face.
  • I love that I can use my success to benefit others.
  • I love that I can hire, employ and train others who will become successful and prosperous because they joined my vision.
  • I love that I can invest in people who will exceed their own preconceived outcomes.
  • I love pushing myself to go beyond what I did last year, the year before and the year before that, and I still come away more refreshed and excited for the next challenge.
  • I love that every day is different.
  • I love that I can sleep in if I want to, or I can burn the midnight oil. It's my choice.
  • I love that I can choose to be off work for months without penalty.
  • I love the fact that my level of success is totally up to me. What I put in will determine my level of reward.
  • I love that my income is not dependent on anyone but me.

What's not to love in this business. Sure, there are people who are difficult to work with, but that is true in all areas of life. I fired a client last week after working with him for 6 months. The irony of that is that I had the privilege to do that, and I gladly took the opportunity. Did it make me mad? Nah, it made me glad. I gained 6 new clients within 24 hours. That's the great thing about working for myself. There are no limits. What's not to love?

We can't leave our customers happy, then really what's the point of anything? It's a really big blessing,

There are several things that you list that I can identify with, Mike.  For example, that second one about handing the keys to a first time buyer.  I love that!

Hi Mike - That's a great list and we share most of them, except the one about taking a couple of months off - not in the cards, but we do hope to get there someday.

Mike, You list one of the benefits that I think escapes many.  The more successful we are, the more we can help others.  Our church, our charities and more benefit because we have the ability to do so.

Some days I have to use positive affirmations saying "I love my job, I love my job, I love my job" to the tune of the Little Engine That Could's "I think I can, I think I can . . . "  But 25 years into my real estate career, I DO LOVE IT.
