How much time ya got? This could be the longest post in my career. After 16 years as a retail stores owner I embarked on the love of my life at least business wise and over 26 years later the ardor hasn't cooled. Frustrations yes, egos the size of K2 yes, but no one said life is easy and even if it was would you appreciate what you accomplished and overcame to get there? The key factor is when you wake up are you ready? Are you energized? Are you ready to conquer new worlds? For me even at 69 that is what the morning feels like and here are the reason why:
Connecting the dots: Every successful REALTOR® I have ever talked to have one thing in common, they are entrepreneurs first, business people second, and REALTORS® third. An entrepreneur sees thousands even millions of dots that could possibly be connected and somehow finds the right ones to put together. The joy of seeing a positive visualization of how you can put this together and then reverse engineer it to find the flaws and wehat is missing jazzes me up daily. To have the freedom to do something no one else has done is enough for me.
Specialty: I started selling investors when I first started and by 2004 I was all in on just investment real estate. Maybe it comes from knowing what you don't like and that is cattle call listing appointments and buyers that can't seem to make up their minds. I am fortunate to live in a big enough metro where I can do this and as an investor myself I know the value of what investing in real estate has done for me. I am at that wonderful time of life where I don't need to make another sale because I have to but because I want to. The love for me is doing the right thing for investors that will give them the same freedom of choice. I work with people at 55 that need to hurry and people at 30 that don't but it is more tha just providing positive cash flow, it is securing their retirement or paying for their children's college education. It is a mission, it is positive, and I love doing it.
The Gift of Time: How many people can say that their time is exactly that their time. Too many people work so that they can pay for their pleasure and also their responsibilities. My job is doing that everyday on my time and setting the limits on how my time is spent. So much is said about the time value of money but how about the money value of time? When you can afford to set the parameters of not only who you work with but also when is that the greatest gift. Last year I spent 45 days on vacation and 60 days doing work for NAR, my choice and I still had a great year and for 2017 the first quarter will be the best ever. Combing financial success with time to myself and with my wife is the greatest gift of all.
Being old is cool: I grew up in the beginning of what was called the youth culture. You remember the 60's, don't trust anyone over 30? Now it is in choosing a REALTOR® don't trust anyone under 30. This business is ageless and the more experience the better. It was Albert Einstein is the only source knowledge is experience. I don't know how much longer i will work but as long as I wake up passionate about what I do and look forward to conquering the world. The bottom line is I don't have to do it but after 26 years I still love to do it. How many people do you know can say that?
