Best Business Practice for April: Delegating Work

Time is limited and it becomes more precious when there is so much to do and yet so little time to do them. As I have always been a "do-it-yourselfer", hiring out is usually not my priority. Things have changed in my part of the world so my business philosophy must too!

Delegating work and hiring outside have saved my life, my family and my sanity.

While my expertise is in selling real estate, any activities related to it are skilled I put a high priority. However, certain activities such as book keeping is not. Thus, I decided to hire my book keeper, Alida MacKenzie of Time Management Networking to keep up with my expenses. Oh boy was she quick! She took an hour to enter my last few expenses, reconcile my first quarter's bank statements and synchronized my Quickbooks so that my accountant could review them for me. What she took an hour to do could easily take me 3-6 hours simply because this software is new to me. So not only do I need to enter them, I need to first learn how to use it.

So, think about delegating some of your work. Is it worth your time? Could you be making more in real estate instead of the activity you are doing?

It's one of the new lessons I've learnt recently!

It's a hard lesson to learn, especially if you're a control freak (like me) or a perfectionist! I outsouce my payroll (started this year), finally hired an accountant to do my taxes (last year) and next I vow to let my assistant start entering info on my web page.
