300 Days of Sunshine in the Mile High City - Colorado

Many people think of snow when they think about Denver, Colorado.  While we do get a fair share of snow in the winter months, the flakes don't hang around for long.  Since our elevation is 5,280 above sea level, the intense sunshine does a number on the snow that falls in our area.

Did you know that Denver, Colorado enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine each year?  That is a higher average than Miami Beach or San Diego.

Yesterday was another postcard day for Denver, Colorado.  We reached an all time high of 67 degrees.  This was the warmest February 15th on record.  Today is expected to be 71 degrees.  Will we set another new record?

Snow lovers don't have far to travel to enjoy winter sports.  Just a few hours west, the Rocky Mountains are experiencing a banner snow year.

Currently in Vail Colorado (a favorite ski town for many) they have 51" of packed powder.  That has many people heading for the hills!

If that's not quite enough snow, just head south to Crested Butte where they have 77" of packed powder.  They have had a banner snowfall season.

Many people prefer to stay in town and enjoy local activities like golfing in the middle of winter.  Here is a shot from my neighborhood of Saddle Rock Golf Course.  There aren't many days that I see no golfers on the course.

Hi Belinda - I'm a huge fan of Colorado skiing - Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Steamboat - marvelous places, and so close to Denver. (Am I being disloyal if I say I prefer the snow in CO to CA??)

Hi Belinda,
Our Chamber of Commerce boasts "300 Days of Sunshine" too.  I make the distinction that we have "300 days with sunshine".  It comes out sometime during the day, but doesn't necessarily stick around.

If I ever get back to Denver it will be for golf and to meet you.  My skiing days are over.

I like these views a lot more than the ones with lots of snow, this is the Colorado that I love!

Belinda fabulous shots!  I'd be out golfing with you today. You've got the same temperature we're expecting today!  Since I used to live in Vail I love when I hear how much snowpac they have - time to strap on the boards and go skiing!

Good morning Belinda Spillman ,

You live in a picturesque part of the country and 300 days of sunshine I would not expect due to your snow fall. Thank you for setting the record straight.

Hi Belinda -- because I have followed you for more than a few years, I am aware that Denver has 300 days of sunshine each year.   As far as snow, I enjoy it...from afar although there are many opportunities to see snow here for those who want that up close experience.

Hi Belinda

Sounds like some crazy weather right now! How nice to enjoy some warm days in the middle of the winter.

People are often surprised that San Diego is NOT sunny everyday

Enjoy your weekend - ours is going to be a rainy, stormy one!

That is wonderful to have that much sunshine. We have had a lot of it this winter and I am glad for that.
