White County Court house Searcy AR painting

Well, I'm guilty again.  I bought another historic post card on ebay.

This one of our historic White County AR court house appealed to me because it was different.  It is not a photograph.  It seems to be an artist's rendering of the historic building.  It does not have an artist's signature on it and if it was newer we could say it had been edited to appear as original art work.  The back of the card calls for a one cent stamp so that puts a little age on it.  Perhaps the Sleuths will know something about the card and can respond.  Perhaps when I get it through the mail I will discover more clues regarding its history.

I'm not sure the clock is there in the rendering. The clock or clocks date back to 1872.  See previous blog.

There seems to be too many large trees for a older age. Anyway it's just a artist's drawing.

Don, perhaps it was an artist's rendering for adding on the wings.  So when were the wings added?  It does look sort of architectural in style.  Look at the little people like architects put in their proposals and it is a well-drawn house.

The North and South wings were added in 1912 according to Muncy's book on p. 69.

My memories of the courthouse in the 40's are the coolness in summer, the strange aniseptic smell, and the blind man selling sundries in the foyer. I would go in here mostly in the summers for the coolness. Living only a block away at the time, it was a quick walk there,

I think it is kind of fun to search history for your area and that is a cool postcard with a historic stamp.
