I want to thank Liz and Bill Spear for hosting this February Challenge "What I Love About My Job".
It's All About People and Homes!
I come from a family of sales people. The oldest of five siblings with three brothers and one sister, we are all still very close. My parents came from the heart of the country, Nebraska and Kansas. Maybe because of that, I always felt I was a mid-westerner at heart. After all, I have roots there. But I had the opportunity to spend some of my formative years growing up in the Houston Texas area. I can remember the devastation that Hurricane Carla brought with it. The flood waters came up to the steps of our home and we were without power for sometime.
What I remember most is the people. People from the mid-west and Texas where I grew up, are warm, generous neighborly by nature. My family moved to California, where most of my teenage years and adult life were spent. I worked and raised my family, two rambunctious boys, in the Inland Empire until my husband and I decided to pick up roots and move to Sedona Arizona after the boys were grown.
Now I get to work with many of those same people from the midwest who buy second homes or retirement homes right here in Sedona.
Real Estate Is In My Blood
My husband and I have owned our own home since we were 20 years old. Ever since then, real estate has been part of our fabric. We have sold many of our own homes. I have experience in property management and we have invested in commercial real estate ventures and LLCs. For fun, we would go to new home developments all across Southern California to see the latest trends, design features and new areas being developed. To this day, we still enjoy doing this!
Once we moved to Sedona, I decided to go to work at a real estate brokerage and help out with paperwork. It was the height of the recession that I decided to get my license and jump into the deep end. I love looking at homes and what better way to satisfy this desire.
Painting That Marketing Canvas
Now my husband and I can enjoy the excitiment of getting that new listing and painting the marketing canvas from taking the photos, to putting the finishing touches on the customized marketing plan while I craft the copy for the listing. It is all about striking the right creative tone for the ultimate buyer of that property.
I Jumped In With Both Feet During The Great Recession
As a guest on a local real estate radio show, I was told by the host that I was unusual because most people in real estate were getting out and here I was jumping in with both feet! He told me that I just missed the good times. I may have missed the big $$ before the bubble burst but I would argue that I did not miss out on the good times.
I Am blessed
I SELL Sedona. It is what I do and what I named my domain (SellSedona.com). Whether I am with a client or a visitor to our magnificent red rocks, I tout this area because I love every red dirt inch of it. I get to tell all who will listen, about our outdoor activities including hiking, wonderful year round weather and views from custom designed homes that are awe inspiring.
Steeped In Western & Native American History
Rick and I feel we have it all living in Sedona. There is the utter beauty and majesty of the surrounding red rock landscape as well as a mild four season climate. We have 5 Star resorts, restaurants, art galleries and cultural events. In fact, our 23rd Annual International Film Festival start February 18th! We also have all year round outdoor activities. Sedona and the Verde Valley are steeped in western and Native American history. It is all around us. What could be better than living the Sedona dream?
This is why I love my job...
