Happy Anniversary

I am celebrating the anniversary of my Blogging start on ActiveRain. Like so many in those early days, it was  a big move as blogging was so new to agents and the impact it would have on our business had yet to be proven.

It was early in the day of Feb 19, 2008 when I received a call from a loan officer who was also a family friend.  His exact words were: Hey Ed, you need to check out this site, ActiveRain. He was responsible for his company's web site and was adept at getting Google placement, which was as important then as well.

I opened up the site and we continued to talk a while during which he sent me an invite to join. The rest, as is the phrase, is history.

As I went into the ActiveRain archives I was able to see that many of the people that share the day with me have not been as consistent and only one has even had a recent post, on which I left a comment, Mary Jo Quay .

For me, the Adventure  which is ActiveRain, has been fun and rewarding. My first effort at blogging was short and while I thought I had a message, The Spring Market is Right Around the Corner,  I failed to provide enough quality content to attract readers much less business.

The boon to me at the time was reading the posts of others and even occasionally making a comment with much trepidation over being perceived as the novice I was. I don't know if that was the perception so much as it may well have been more representative of the overall tone of blogging done at the time.

ActiveRain was trying to gather momentum and in order to do that they embarked on their RainCamps as a way of meeting fellow members as well as bringing information to us on how to create a successful blog.  It was outstanding at the time and I remember my first RainCamp at the Marriott in the heart of Times Square in the Big Apple.  There was so much information packed into the presentations of Bob Stewart, Ben Kinney and Brad Andersohn.  I do believe they are still active on the platform.

With confidence, a blog style developed and with the information offered on  blogging, phone calls did start to come, as did business.

What I received as a bonus to joining ActiveRain has been the development of some outstanding friends both near and far that may well have never happened. I look at some of these friends as special people in my life as well, some of whom are right here in Connecticut yet just far enough away that they would not have crossed my path.

What I also appreciate is that as I give thoughts to taking vacations with my wife, I can selfishly try to make it a mini Meet-up as well, or even a reason to take a vacation.

This has worked well for us as we meet with once very active Rainers, Al & Peggy Cunningham Brokers, Brampton Ontario Homes For Sale 905-450-5500   in Niagara Falls and even thought they are not as active here as they once were, we still maintain contact.

What would a trip to the Grand Canyon in AZ be without also meeting the Top Banana,

Anna Banana Kruchten,  or a trip to Carlsbad CA and not stopping to say hello to Jeff Dowler  and even better attending an ActiveRain Meet-up in Long Beach CA.

If your are thinking of ActiveRain in MA, then the names   Barbara Todaro  or Praful Thakkar  are there, both of whom I have traveled to meet.  Got Red Shoes? then Ginny Gorman  in Rhode Island is also someone who's path would have never crossed mine.

Closer of course, I have Brother George, also known as  George Souto, so close and quite possibly never to have met, and the list goes on a lot longer.

For new bloggers it is far easier to get started here than when many of us came in. There is a ocnstant barrage of blog expertise offered here and if you need to see it in a formal form, then get nto ActiveRain University and earn your blog degree.

As I celebrate my 9th Anniversary on ActiveRain I look forward to more of the same as it has been such a pleasant experience.
