Keep People with Bad Intentions Out of Your Life

By
Real Estate Agent

Knowing ahead of time which people coming into your life have bad intentions towards you and/or your loved ones would be a wonderful thing.

Sure, the fact that even one person has bad intentions towards you is a little unsettling, but wouldn’t you at least like to know ahead of time who they are?

That being the case, getting to know someone in a mere matter of minutes can of course prove difficult.

For instance, you end up meeting an individual online who strikes up a conversation with you on Twitter.

Now, while you have the option of going to their Twitter profile (assuming it is not locked) to learn more about them, that profile could be fake for all you know. Even if the conversation seems comfortable and on the up-and-up, are they truly someone you’d want to follow or vice-versa on social media.

The same can be said when you are at the gym or a sporting event etc. and you start chatting with someone.

Would they be a person you might want to hang out with over time? While they very well may be that sort of individual, what if they were hiding a dark secret in their life?

As you can see, getting to know people ahead of time before you consider their potential impact in your life can prove difficult.

So, what options do you have to deal with this matter?

Move Forward with a Criminal Records Check

In order to truly get the background on someone, have you thought about criminal records checks looking for sex offenders?

Yes, the last thing you likely want to think about is that you may be in contact with a sex offender, especially if you have children. That said it is much better to learn such unsettling news ahead of time.

If you do opt to do such a record checks, you can learn details such as why they were arrested, where they were arrested, and of course when. Although sex offenders are required to register with officials, the truth of the matter is not everyone in this situation follows the rules of the law as they should.

While there would be a number of reasons to run such a check on any individuals you come across, the most common one would be where do they live in relation to you?

With many people moving yearly for various reasons, you might even become suspicious of a new neighbor or two that comes into your part of town. By doing that records check, you can hopefully put your mind at ease as to those only a stone’s throw away from your home.

Although knowing that you have a sex offender in your neighborhood would certainly prove troublesome for a number of residents, what if you had a career robber or burglar move into the area?

He or she would certainly be cause for concern, once again proving why doing a criminal records check on any new neighbors you come across is certainly not a bad idea.

Wanting to know those around you both online and offline is quite commonplace, so don’t think that doing a few records searches somehow makes you out to be strange or unwelcoming for that matter.

Which Search Company Best Suits Your Needs?

In deciding which search company to go with online, look at a few factors.

Among them:

  •        Time in business – While there is nothing wrong with considering newer companies in the search records business that have popped up in recent years, make sure to give a good look at experienced ones. There is a reason the latter ones have been around for a significant period of time;
  •        Customer service – Given you may have some questions regarding the records search process; make sure to find a company there for you. Some companies will even offer “chat” options when you first go on their websites;
  •        Special deals – Lastly, some of these search companies also offer special deals for first-time customers. You could end up with a one-day or even one-week trial, so you may not have to pay any money at all to use the site. That said there are usually limits on how many names you can search on a daily basis.

In order to best keep people with bad intentions out of your life, make sure your search skills are as focused as possible.

You failed to mention a real problem with our profession Ted Levin , the open house.  A male or female Realtor puts themselves in a very dangerous position holding an open house these days. No time to do a background check. I always have someone else with me at a open house and I ALWAYS carry!

Bob,

Great points.  I thought about the same thing - having someone else there when holding an open house.  I visited several this weekend and Realtors all had someone else with them.  We have to be so careful these days.

As a property manager, I conduct background checks on people all the time and it certainly does help weed out the trouble. In fact, many won't even apply for my rentals because they are worried I'll find out about their troubled past.
