@thelovelywife I Care!

twitter logoIt's not about what you're doing.
It's not about what I'm doing.
It's about what you and I are doing right now.

Like you, I didn't get twitter either. I was trying to make it something it wasn't and it's just not that complicated

It's about the conversation.

It doesn't matter whether it's here on ActiveRain or on Twitter. You, of all people, should know that.

Is there a lot of silly conversation on Twitter? Sure. There's a lot of silly conversation here too. That happens on social networks. It's how people get to know each other.

If it weren't for the silly conversations, the completely "meaningless" banter, you and I would not be as close as we are. If it weren't for the silly conversations, the off-topic hijacks, you and I would not be as close as we are. It's SOCIAL media. It's about being social. It's not about Google juice or SEO. It's not meant to be purely about business. It's social.

Saying it sucks without actually engaging... that's not the TLW [SVW] I know. The TLW [SVW] I know is always up for some crap. She's always up for truly getting to know someone else. She's a master of engagement. She understands how to connect on a real level. You'd rock Twitter. And I'd enjoy spending more time with you.

Twitter is about the conversation. Period.

So, you want to have some good conversation?  I found a few people you might enjoy getting to know on a different level:

Oh, and about the opportunity crimes thing.

Sorry. I understand your point, but for those who are concerned, Twitter is safer than ActiveRain, if you want it to be. Just set your account to private and only those you allow to see it will see it. Block them and they can't follow you. If a stranger wants to see what you have to say here, all they have to do is become a member. :)

Jeff what a great post - I found Twitter hard to GET when I started and yet is is very addicting once you get started. TLW I care too - come chat with me at @cyndeehaydon :)

Jeff,

Good points, I have found lots of good stuff on Twitter, I don't think I would have come across any other way.  It is not always silly.

The lovely wife... Quick witted, loads of humors, and I heart as big as the gulf of mexico... She is a great gal and I think she knows we all care for her and are wondering, what are you doing?

Jeff, this is so cool, a live Twitter stream! LOVE IT!!!

The  really disappointing part of Twitter is there is only room for 144 characters of crap.

05/08/2008 08:14 PM by Linda Davis (RE/MAX Realty Group)

Hi TLW - I'm @KYRealEstate and I care too :)

I'm totally new to Twitter and still don't "get it" but I enjoy it and would love to learn the ropes with you!

05/08/2008 08:30 PM by Kelly McDonald (Semonin Realtors)

I've already engaged in twittering........;however, it hasn't become addictive to me yet, but it is really cool when someone I know (through AR) sees me online and says hi! I care too.........about a lot of things! ;-)

I think it's past TLW's bedtime - I'm sure we'll get a great response in the morning!  So when are we doing the 3-way??

05/08/2008 08:37 PM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

Why does it need my email password again?  I agree with TLW that I don't like that part at all.  I just became @dfwagent .  Will people be able to find me without me giving up my password?

05/08/2008 08:41 PM by Amanda Hall--Realtor, Fort Worth Texas (Hall Team Homes)

I missed the TLW Twitterfest Too - I was otherwise engaged all day today.  I like Twitter - I enjoy it, and no, I didn't get it either at first.

Then I thought "What a great way to troll for possible leads..."

And then I thought - "What a great way to spoil something great..."

Now I just use Twitter as it's intended - to chat with new friends.  The trick is to get something fun going when your Tweets are online.  I've posted several tweets that have gone unnoticed because of the timing; just like I've missed a lot of the tweets of others.

I think she's afraid of the "addictive qualities" of twitter - remember she's a HOT LEO!

05/08/2008 09:20 PM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

TLW's big issue was giving up her email password. Mine too. When she finds out that you don't have to give it up, she might be okay with the twitter action.

Jeff:

I love you all but I really don't see what's going on there or anywhere else I've signed up to justify time spent.  I care but can't give the time :(

I also feel funny just going there and saying hi and then I don't get back there for days...weeks because i have so many other things to update, catch up on and such. On top of everything else...I don't understand.

A couple of misconceptions about Twitter need to be cleared up. First, it's not just about "What are you doing?" Whatever you can say in 140 characters is fair game, be it an update, a link, a question, a witty or profound observation, a photo upload, etc. And the great thing about that is it lets other see our spontaneous selves.

Second, I don't remember being asked for any email passwords. That seems to be misinformation. Can someone check and clarify this?

05/08/2008 10:31 PM by John Novak - REALTOR®, Las Vegas and Henderson, NV (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace)

Hey John, I can confirm that the email password is requested at sign up.  It asks for you email password so it can see if any of your email contacts are on twitter already.

I was able to bypass it because Laura Monroe started following me and told some people to follow me as well.  In order for me to search for followers I think I have to give up the password, tho.  I'll just follow the same people you guys follow for a while and see how it goes!

TLW, jump in...the water is warm.  It's the same people we see here that are on twitter!

05/08/2008 10:40 PM by Amanda Hall--Realtor, Fort Worth Texas (Hall Team Homes)

Uh Oh. Did my instigation start something? I haven't checked back on TLW's post after I started instigating.

05/08/2008 10:51 PM by Lisa Hill (Daytona Beach REALTOR®) (Adams Cameron and Company)

Sally... the cool thing is, you don't need to understand. I'm certainly not here trying to convert people to be twitterholics. It works for me on many levels. It works for others as well. It may not work for you. Both experiences may be equally real. :)

05/08/2008 10:57 PM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Amanda - You can also search for people in the Search box at the top of the screen. For example, entering "Amanda Hall" returned two results, and one was you. Another way to find people to follow is to hover over the avatars in the sidebar of anyone's profile page and click on the usernames that you recognize. ... I now return this comment stream back to @ResPres. :)

05/08/2008 10:57 PM by John Novak - REALTOR®, Las Vegas and Henderson, NV (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace)

John... thanks for the input!!! But could you please keep your comments to 140 characters or less. :)

05/08/2008 11:04 PM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Jeff - I Twitter that!  I mean I second that! Best explanation so far. It's all social and great to pull away from the grind of the office sometimes. I am a newbie there but dying to figure out how to get it set up on my TREO...I think I could enjoy it there too! Come TLW...Twitter me I dare you.. @AZRealEstate  I care too!

HI Jeff, Presuming you actually read your comments here on AR, I notice you do not respond much to comments. So why is Twitter so fascinating?

Would it be because you can respond in real time? Always fun to read your posts and respond,Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

I told TLW I'm with her on this one, yet it seems like I'm in the minority and that's o.k. with me. Truthfully  I'm not willing to take on any more screen time. If it works for others, that's fine with me, I think I'm sitting to much on my backside now as it is. (LOL)

05/08/2008 11:51 PM by Orange Co. Real Estate~Lynda Eisenmann, Broker-Owner, Brea, CA (Preferred Home Brokers)

Maybe I need to go check it out more to not understand more LOL! Okay....all my friends here are over there too....where does everyone dig up the time ??????

Look, now I have to go finish my RES....time time....is on my side ?

05/09/2008 12:06 AM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), Hawaii Real Estate & Hawaii Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

William... hey there! I try to let the conversations happen without my interjection. But I do indeed read every single comment! That is one of the things I find useful about Twitter, it's more directly interactive. But the real value for me is the diversity of information and of ideas. It has become the hub around which I communicate. I've met folks I would NEVER have met any other way. Never.

Linda... :) being in the minority is often a good thing!  I'm a Mac user, for example.

Sally... no doubt. Twitter can be a time drain, if you let it. I told Teresa Boardman once that it was like The Hotel California. It can be heaven or it can be hell. :)

05/09/2008 01:09 AM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Hi guys.  I probably should go read tlw's post first ... but Jeff, you may I noticed I haven't been around Twitter alot lately.  One reason, of course, is we've just busier than a (fill in your favorite metaphor),,,,,

But the other reason is I got the feeling more and more people just wanted to "broadcast" info on Twitter without participating in the conversations.

That's not the Twitter I knew and loved.  Maybe I should just go back and "unfollow" everyone that picked up that nasty broadcast habit.  :-)

OMG>  After the AR update earlier this AM ... my name is gone... This is Cheryl Johnson, in case my name doesn't come back soon.  :-)

05/09/2008 07:34 AM by Cheryl Johnson, Bob Taylor Properties, Inc., Los Angeles, CA

Jeff - as much as I love you, and you know I do, I just can't see myself following you around all day or anyone else for that matter. I just can't see the point.

I think it also depends on where you work.  I am out most of the day, in the car, staging homes etc.  By the time I would read all the tweets they would be hours old and the pithy banter would seem stale.  Does that make sense?

05/09/2008 07:38 AM by Maureen Henry - Rockland Home Staging (www.rocklandhomestaging.com)

Havent been using twitter yet. I have looked at it but it seems as I may give it a try. I really need another addiction! LOL

05/09/2008 08:17 AM by Chip Jefferson (Carrion Builders)

Cheryl... yes, just unfollow those folks and move on. That's certainly an option.

Maureen... and you know I love you too! But I wouldn't follw you around all day either! I would hope nobody follows me around all day, I've got 6 little people who'd like to do that already. That's enough for me. Twiitter is a river. I don't go back and read old stuff, unless someone directly points a comment my way. That would be insane.

05/09/2008 08:37 AM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

All...

I'm not prosolyting. If it's not for you, it's not for you. If you have addiction problems, stay away. :)

I'm not here to promote twitter. I'm here to respond to TLW [SVW]'s challenge in the comment section of her post. She said I might be the only one who could change her mind.

She and I are having a public conversation (just like twitter) and everyone else is listening in and throwing in their comments (just like twitter). :)

And for those having trouble following conversations over on Twitter, give Quotably.com a try.

05/09/2008 08:41 AM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

You did a good thing here, Jeff Turner.

There are times when a random and crazy thought from TLW would be just what the doctor ordered!

When a person can get under your skin, make you smile and crack you up all the same time...that is love.

We love you TLW!  We do! We do! We do!

05/09/2008 09:21 AM by Jessica Horton (Brio Realty)

Ok, let me jump in here and say that I love TLW too but I can't justify any more time spent on social networks.  I've devoted so much time to AR already that I'd probably have to give up some work time to add any others.

Jeff - you hit it on the head. So often we don't understand new things - but need to learn them so we can make a logical decision. I just joined Twitter last week, so I'm still in the "What Is" and "How" stage.

{SVW Hubba}...

Well...You did it. I am in Hotel Twitter Hell :)

I have been off line since 6 P.M. last night. When I checked my email this morning I had no Active Rain notifications. As you know a very large chunk of my email is always from AR blogs that I am following. That was not the case today...I had one entire page of Twitters. Needless to say after seeing all of that and all of this, I'm feeling very loved right now :)

I am also sold on the Twitter thing. Yes. I said that out loud and for everyone to hear. How can I not be sold...You hit me where I live. I understand it now. It's about YEO and relationships. I excell at both.

Now...To all of you here and on Twitter...

I don't know what to say except thank you for making me Smile Very Wide. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with Twitter. Ines is right. But for me it's not fear...It's my addictive personality. I go through great pains to keep balance in my life and exercise control over how long I will allow myself to stay virtual :)

For those of you who are wondering where I've been all morning. Well...I just finished resting after walking three miles so that my ass will not resemble the chair I Blog from :)

I'll be back Guys. I think I need a Michelob Ultra...And some time to absorb all of these comments. Not to mention the fact I still need to figure out how to become a flippin' Twit :)

P.S. Hubba just for ole times sake...I have to say...Quit staring at me :)

I just checked and TLW has 53 followers already!!  That's what I call SOCIAL NETWORKING Jeff!! : )

I thought I would add my favorite picture here as well (it was TLW's idea btw.....to enhance the photo that is)

TLW made me do it!

05/09/2008 10:31 AM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

TLW... make your twitter account private. Sarah Cooper has had her account private from the beginning. It hasn't slowed her down. Want to control the addiction? Only follow the people you really want to follow. Follow some new people you find interesting though, so you can expand your horizons, especially outside of the real estate industry. (You and Connie Reese will get along fabulously, by the way. And she has nothing to do with real estate.) Diversity of thought is good.

As you are well aware, you are one of my dearest friends... and we've never met face-to-face. I'm quite certain I'm going to cry when I finally meet you, or laugh uncontrollably. Either way, I will NOT be able to contain my emotion. All becuase of social networking. It's been worth the time.
