I need a permit for tiles? Are you serious?

Yes folks it is true to those of us who live in the (3) unfortunate municipalities of either City of Aventura, Town of Highland Beach or the City of Miami Beach.  You need a building permit for tile installation.  Although it is not part of the Florida Building Code, a municipality can go beyond the code and your contractor is responsible to pull the necessary permits.

The reason for this is due to most of the residential community residing in condominiums. The building dept wants to insure that the proper cork underlayment is installed in the interior and that a protective membrane is installed on all balconies.  In Miami Beach, you are also required to submit a pull test performed by a structural engineer. In one way it is a hassle, but in another sense, it keeps unlicensed uninsured contractors from working in the buildings.  It will also keep the shoddy contractors from installing hollow tiles on the balcony.  You can imagine how many tiles have flown off the balconies during hurricanes!

When you are ready for a quality installation with a professional...call B/P Services Group, Inc.

In Palm Beach 561-968-7663, In Broward 954-636-8366, In Miami-Dade 786-207-2590.

Hey, Anthony. It actually sounds like a great idea. I am sure that the condo owners appreciate this more than ever. Thanks for sharing, Jim

I think our neighborhood needs a permit for just about everything.  At least, it seems like it!  :)  Keep up the good work...  :)

Our local, state, and federal governments sure go the extra mile to make it hard on working people. It is over the top, just like monitoring how many trout you can catch in a day. We are under suppression nad it is getting worse by the day and the gallon.

Greg, you have no idea of the hassles I go through every day with the building depts.  Sometimes it seems like they make up stuff just to make life difficult.  We all suffer.  But today in South Florida, 60 to 70% of all inspections are failed the first time.  They will fail you for anything and everything.  New construction is almost at a halt, so the building officials have to justify their jobs.  They are having more code enforcement patrols and are looking for every revenue dollar they can.  If something needs a permit...I don't fool around or try to get away without pulling one.  Even if it is small potatoes, pull the permit.  They will make your life miserable if you get caught without a permit.  Good Luck Everyone!

Wow, this is a good one. Sounds like just another way to get revenue doesn't it?
