Try Taking a Step Back
Great blog. I have bookmarked for future reference.
Try Taking a Step Back...
The other day I was in the market looking for a particular type of Risotto. I’d purchased it before and remembered it being in this particular store on this aisle. So there I am looking for a good 5 minutes (or so it seemed.)
The rice products were no more than 2 feet in front of me. I scoured each shelf looking for the familiar package.
I thought my contacts were going to pop out!
So, I decided to take a step back. In fact, I stood in front of the shelves directly across from it, probably a good 4 or 5 feet away. I searched again.
And there it was!
It was a reminder to me that when we’re searching for something, such as an answer to a problem, sometimes all we need to do is take a step back.
That step back could mean literally stepping back.
When staging a room, I’ve often stepped out of the room or house, and come back in for a different or new perspective.
It could mean stepping back, and away, and coming back with a fresh perspective.
This is especially true when I’m working on a computer issue. I don’t like the wasted time of doing the same thing over and over again with no result. For me, I have to walk away and return to give it a fresh try.
It could even mean stepping back and getting the opinion of a peer or someone whose opinion you trust.
I’ve called Sharon Tara many times asking her opinion about placement of a table or bed.
Taking a step back can mean knowing when you need help!
The next time you’re in search of something and aren’t finding it, try taking a step back!
You must look within for value, but must look beyond for perspective. Denis Waitley
