Unusual Sky Over Flower Mound, TX

6:20 PM, 2/26/17

Evening Sky

The sky appeared to be inspiring, ominous, and beautiful over Flower Mound, Texas this evening. It was the lovely artistic strokes in the sky that caught my attention while driving home this evening. I just had to pull over near the school playground to snap this photograph. Later this evening, just before the Oscars ended, closer to 11:00 p.m., Central Standard Time, a loud thunderous sky and flashes of lightning shot through my windows while raindrops pounded on top my roof and echoed inside the fireplace; then ended rather abruptly.

Before the rain, this celestial light was quite amazing as it seemed to roll across the sky until I parked my car at home. It wasn't until I uploaded the photograph after the Oscars that I noticed what appears to be a translucent bubble in the sky around where I would imagine was the setting sun. The night sky mesmerizes the eye both while seeing its natural occurrence followed up by seeing the photograph afterwards.

The interval between winter and spring is mysteriously unique and brings forth many elements of surprises. Even though, I am awakened with possibilities and changes, I know everything is unpredictable, like the finale of the Oscars. Lights are out. I took one last final peak into the heavens and noticed there were no stars. In the still of the night, I remain hopeful and optimistic there is something much brighter than movie stars.

It can be interesting when the lens captures something our eyes may have missed or didn't see, like that translucent bubble.

Myrl Jeffcoat - I am in love with taking photographs and when I get surprising results it's even better! I don't know if the street light had something to do with reflection from the lens or not but no matter what, I love it! Interesting captures is part of the fun of photography. Aren't we lucky to live in a world of digital cameras!

Good morning Patricia Feager ,

I'm always amazed looking through a lens and then what we can capture..it's like seeing it with our own eyes but since its a photo we scan take longer and see things we missed the first glance. Loved your closing remark.

Dorie Dillard - What you say is so true! I notice this a lot from people who want to take their own pictures for the MLS. I think they get so used to seeing their house one way, they don't see the excess that doesn't belong there. The camera doesn't lie!

When I uploaded my photograph I was so intrigued by that translucent bubble. If I were a student, I would have taken the photograph to school to show a science teacher to see if they had any pearls of wisdom as to why this may have occurred.

Thank you for letting me know you liked my closing remark. It makes me happy to know you took the time to read. I appreciate you very much.

It's sad for me to say, I don't get as excited anymore about the Oscars. I just keep on hoping something will change. I need to change my thought process and be more specific about what I want changed.

Patricia love your photo and the description! As for the oscars I honestly have never watched and have zero interest in that stuff - especially how crazy political it is now. I go to movies to relax and enjoy.  Pretty simple for moi!

Patricia that is a gorgeous picture you took.   I share Anna's opinion about the Oscar's, and apparently others do as well given the way their ratings keep on falling.

Interesting phenomenon you captured!  Movie stars are a dull comparison to the real things.  And yes there was a surprise ending wasn't there!

I love looking at the stars by the ocean and I use an iPad app called Star Walk that shows you what you are looking at in the night sky.

I still don't know why Moonlight won Best Picture (though I have some ideas). I saw the movie. It was okay, but certainly not the best movie I saw during the past year.
