Garden City logoGarden City City Council members voted unanimously Monday night to deny approval to a developer's plans for a 5 acre site adjacent to the Boise River that was the former Coffey Mobile Home Park.  The mobile park was in the news in 2006 because of the efforts of the owner to remove the residents of the old trailers on the site.  Clearing of the old trailers and shacks, as well as mounds of debris, has been ongoing over the last two months, and the property has lately been much less of a blight than in years past.

The city council determined that even though the proposed project met the standards of the current zoning, it was felt that it did not meet what the council believed to be the desires of the citizens as expressed in the city's Comprehensive Plan for "higher quality development along the Greenbelt".

The property is located west of Glennwood, along Strawberry Glenn Road, west of the River Pointe Apartments.  It lies adjacent to the Boise River Greenbelt.  The developer's plan called for 40 housing units, with approximately 8% of the land to be set aside for an open space for a sitting area and fire pit.  Among the city's objections to the plan was the lack of sufficient parking and open space.
