I recently read a post by Ed Silva who was celebrating an ActiveRain anniversary. I think I called it a "rainiversary" in my comment.
This got me to wondering how long I have been here in the Rain. I checked.... a long long time.
Actually I first signed up in January 2007 but my first blog posts finally came in March 2007. I guess maybe I was a lurker!
Looking back at those first posts I quickly realized they were really quite humble!
I started out pretty enthusiastically with seventeen posts in March 2007. Let me tell you that over those seventeen initial posts I received a whopping....drum roll please... thirty two comments.
Yes, I almost averaged two comments a post!
I guess all that interaction with other members just pushed me along further. In my mind one comment meant someone read what I had written.
Sometimes only the slightest bit of recognition will spur on more effort.
Think about that as you encounter new members here in the Rain. New members who, in ten years may be posting (if posting exists then) how those one or two comments made them work harder.
I learned a long time ago while coaching youngsters in baseball that a strikeout was not as bad when you complimented the effort!
