If You are Buying a Home with a Private Sewer System: New Hampshire / Vermont

First Time Home Buyer's and Home Buyer's, Here are some things to do and not to do, for a private sewer system.

Have the cesspool pumped out on an annual basis.

Have the septic system pumped out every two to three years.

Have the system inspected on an annual basis.

Know the location of the inspection covers of your tank.

Always conserve water.

Have the system maintained.

Don'ts

Be sure not to overload the system with extra water from your washer.

If you have a garbage disposal never discharge it into the system tank.

Never flush any bulky objects or ant kind of grease into the system.

Never flush any kind of toxic materials into the system.

Never add any commercial additives to the system.

Don't ever park or drive over the system or the tank.

Don't forget to have the system pumped out and inspected on a regular basis.

Dale - This is excellent information. I did two septic inspections today, flow test, both had been upgraded and did OK. Both were conventional.

Dale - I always enjoy your blogs. Sometimes I am a little late getting around to everyone. AR still is not working as it should. They still do a good job and I really like that we can change the background scene; it really adds.

Do you add AR to your outgoing email address on your regular email? I do and have alot of people say they click to see what it is all about and enjoy reading the blogs.

I have not add AR to my E-Mail's as of yet. I do think, I should start.

I am working on a Inspection blog post, that I may make in to a series of an area. That no other Inspector has written about yet. I'll let ya know when I start posting it.

Dale - Give me a heads-up when you start so I don't miss your new blog. I always look forward to reading the good information you share. Just came in from hanging Ceil's Texas Star on the porch. Had to drill into the brick so had to have special screws; seems like a simple job sometimes can get complicated. Had a few other things to do since I had the drill out.

Great tips. In our area, we don't have cesspools that I'm aware of. We do have aerobic systems which require additional maintenance. So, I would add that it is important that buyers understand what kind of system they have, how to use it, and the existence of any relevant county rules and regulations.

Sondra - You've got that right; clients need to know where the system is located and keep a documented file when service was done on the system. We have both conventional and aerobic systems; however, the county is finding out people are not servicing the aerobic systems. Not good.

Dale - We live in one of the larges counties in Texas, they don't have enough inspectors to go around to check; there is lot of controversary going on right now about this. It really needs to be addressed.

It seem's that no matter the size of a countie in a State, they never have enough countie inspector's to do the job, have to do. I know that happens uo here also.
