The First Annual ActiveRain Article Contest (I just made that title up!) is finally completed.

There were a total of 75 articles submitted to be considered. The quality of these articles was truly excellent. Judging the submissions was not an easy task. There were many, many excellent articles on a wide variety of real estate subjects.

Tim Maitsky PhotoWithout further ado, the Third Prize Winner is:

What if Business or Personal Gain Wasn't a Concern? Would You Act Differently? by Tim Maitsky

Tim's article was not a Featured Post and only received 11 comments when he posted it. It is an terrific example of what this contest was all about. It is well written and raises questions we should all ask ourselves as professionals in the Real Estate Industry.

To all contestants:

You did a tremendous job! There was not a mediocre article in entire collection of 75 articles. Your submission was competing with some of the best writers on this network and the competition was fierce. The whole point of the contest was to attempt to 'raise the bar' on the quality of the articles posted to ActiveRain daily. There is no doubt whatsoever that you all, as a group,  exceded expectations.

The prizes for 3rd Place are:

  • 600 bonus points for Third Place
  • The Article will be Feature today on ActiveRain
  • The article will be published in it's entirety on SoundBiteBlog.com with an author credit at the bottom and a live link to a site of your choice. Please let me know what Anchor Text you wish to use in the link.
  • The article will be re-published in it's entirety on Amber Riviere's site.

As I stated in the original Let's Have A Contest post, the Second Place Winner will be announced tomorrow morning and the First Place Winner will be disclosed on Thursday morning. That way, each of the winners gets an entire day in the ActiveRain Spotlight!

Post is included in group: Prime Time

Very interesting.  I read Tim's post about speaking your mind.   Having had that affliction since early childhood, I thought the post was very interesting.

That said, in the interest of "speaking my mind", I did not comment due to an earlier post from Tim wherein he criticized RAINERS for poor grammar and spelling.  I'm under a lot of time pressures this week and having to take the time to examine my post for spelling and grammar knowing that it's under a microscope is off-putting.  So, I didn't.

Actually, all of Tim's posts and comments are worthwhile and while I have observed grammatical errors, I have NEVER mentioned them, nor would I.

Congratulaions to Tim.  A deserving article indeed.  Oh dang.  Did I need a comma after article?????

Congrats Tim, I didn't know about the contest until today.  I need to get up to speed!  Mark, I know there are some posts like Tim's that are awesome that never get featured and then there are some posts that get featured that makes both you and I wonder ????  Seems like there are some members that could write about watching ice cubes melt and the blog would still get posted!  Great job Tim.

Great contest, Mark. Thanks for organizing, etc. If this is 3rd place I can well imagine the other two.

But I just couldn't get my act together, though. Next time.

I am really honored.  I thought it was one of my best and when it didn't get featured it was a big let down for me.   But I liked it and a few others did too so I sucked it up and moved on to create another post.  It's nice to get recognized and everyone likes to be liked. I'm trying to just write what I feel like and not be influenced about what I think others might like.  If I make myself chuckle I feel that I did good.

Thank you Mark for putting this together.  I don't know how you get anything else done with all the time you put into Active Rain.

Lenn, I'm sorry that my mention of spelling and grammar has inhibited you from commenting. After all the comments from that post I stated that I really didn't care about it anymore.  It was brought to my attention that I use "you" much too much.  Then it was brought to my attention that there's a very good reason to use i instead of I.  So now I really don't know what's right and what's wrong.  I love reading your stuff and all of your comments.

Tim, yours was an excellent article. And this is your time in the sun. Enjoy it! It is not a gift, it is something you earned. You deserve the recognition.

We all stub our toes socially once in a while. If you are like me, you'll do it often. It's all part of the learning curve.

I am with you on Lenn's articles. I lurk her blog regularly. As I've said before, when my blog grows up, it wants to be as good as hers!

Thanks for your contribution. An article like that takes time to craft. I'll be reading from now on (well I have been for a while already). You really have raised the bar for  all of us.

I really think this worked, Mark.  I wasn't able to read every single article posted to Prime Time this week, but I did read many of them, and they were all excellent.  We should do this again sometime.  It really made us pull out all the stops and give our articles our best efforts.

RAINERS HELPING RAINERS.

This idea of Mark's about taking a second look at blogs is a good one.  What has happened is that we are "featuring" articles in addition to the RainGod's featurs.

That's a good thing because it provides for an insight into what RAINERS see as value in these articles AND it gives a second chance to some very good blogs.  I regularly, when time permits, read the blogs from the day, not just the featured.  It takes time, but, like that bottom shelves at the library, you can find gold if you look for it.

YEAH ! ! !  for us.

It's really great to hear that it was difficult to select winners. That in itself informs us of how valuable AR is and how much great information is out there, free I might add and with the chance to dialogue directly with those whose ideas are shared!

I've only been here a short while but have learned a great deal from the groups blogs as well as comments to my own efforts.

Thanks AR! :)

Cheers, -B

I like your observation as I always try  to live that way. Sometimes its a little awkward when my wife asks me how like her new haircut, or when someone asks me how I feel about their floorplan in a new home.

It is very valuable to have people know they will always get a true answer from you.

Congradulations on a great blog with a good message.
