Pork Pie

One of the things I miss from home is a good pork pie. Generally most pork pies you get in England are from Melton Mowbery or made in that style. Of course many game pies are made as well. The last couple of years I have resorted to making my own pork pies. It takes a while and there is an art to getting the pastry right, but I cannot tell you how delicious it is. And you have to have Branston Pickle with it. I eat way too much in one sitting, but I only make it once or twice a year. Maybe this year I might experiment and make a game pie instead of a pure pork pie.

Memories of home.

Hi Nick & Trudy Vandekar - I have never heard of a pork pie.  I will have to ask my daughter-in-law who's father is English.  One of the issues moving away from your roots, native comfort food is hard to come by.

I will bite. What is in it? When I moved away from my roots (the big town of Cannon Falls MN), I only missed the hamburgers there! THAT, I can make!!! LOL

Sheri Sperry, and Joan Cox almost every pub in England has pork pie as a lunch option, it is served cold.

Hannah Williams and Kathy Goldman I guess I am going to have to post my recipe when I get some time. Basically different cuts of pork which are ground up, mixed with herbs and some spices, you need to make a gelatnous jelly that you pour into the pie to set around the meat between the meat and the pastry, the pastry is a hot water pastry very specific to these types of meat pies. Here is a YouTube explanation and recipe how to do it.: https://youtu.be/9FvX4pD_bmY

I have never had that treat but I'd bet I'd love it.  This is where some kitchen skills come in handy....when you can't find it, make it!

John Meussner yes it does take some skills to make and some time as well. But absolutely worth it.
