Brands That Have Shaped My life

Brands I have come to know, like, and trust outside of the Real Estate Industry and how they have shaped the way I think about my own Real Estate business.

EVEREADY BATTERIES - AN AMERICAN MADE PRODUCT

Invention and innovation have played an important role in the lives of consumers. My perception on consumer products was shaped by personal life experiences, my parents, and their parents. In 1896, Eveready was the first manufacturer to develop dry cell batteries. They reinvented themselves in the late 1950's when they introduced alkaline technology. I was part of the first generation that experienced portable power. Transistor radios revolutionized the way teenagers listened to music. When it came to Rock & Roll, I was forever ready! By 1989, Eveready introduced my children to the world's first AA lithium batteries, and by 1995, they were the first company to introduce consumers to an on-battery tester to check the life of alkaline batteries, thus saving consumers money. In 1997, technology was once again transformed by Eveready when they invented a long-lasting AA battery for digital cameras and cell phones. Without a digital camera and a cell phone, I could not stay in business.

GENERAL ELECTRIC

The first time I realized how important brand names meant to the American Public was when I was engaged to be married. My first appliance was a General Electric Gas Stove. My mother and my aunts insisted the only thing I really needed to keep a happy marriage was a GE Kitchen Stove, Refrigerator, Washer, Dryer, and an electric GE Window Air Conditioning unit. Those GE products were really built to last because they even outlasted my husband! Little did Jack Welch know how his winning ad campaign had on the influence of women. As a Real Estate Agent, the kitchen and the master bedroom still persuades the buyers more than anything else. GE's slogan, "We bring good things to life," reminded consumers what's best and that theme continues today. Young adults leaving the nest going on their own no longer need to take sage advice from family members. They can shop on-line and check consumer reports.

WEB SITE

website ad

Anyone and everyone who plans to run a business will need to have an award winning brand graphic design system to beat the competition and/or stay in business. People are on the Internet 24-7. One second matters between survival and obsolescence. With the invention of e-brochures flyers, instagram, youtube video, etc., information is consistently available to on-line viewers. For years now, brick and mortar stores have gone out of business. Consumers no long need to walk into a store and many homeowners will not open the door to a stranger selling products. HOA's and Property Management Companies have restrictions and neighborhood guidelines. Web persuasion is highly effective, plus it works! It is the easiest way to get information and has an instant emotional impact. The biggest challenge Real Estate Agents have, is educating the public to know the difference between what is bogus and accurate. People still need credible and verifiable Real Estate Agents who are licensed to sell, not savvy enough to create web sites that lure people in for all the wrong reasons with data that isn't true, current, or even pertinent for local consumers.

The inspiration for this post comes from Ron and Alexandra Seigel, Active Rain March Challenge: Name 3 Brands You Trust & Why? Their business is in Santa Barbara, CA. My business is local to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas. The message is loud and clear - people listen to other people and they listen more when there are no people through various new technology. Loyalty has to be convincing.

Patricia I had to smile about what your Mom and Aunts thought was needed to make a good marriage.  Sweet! Thank goodness I bought a GE gas stove! Very interesting takes on all 3 brands!

Patricia- I love your brands and you are so right about Eveready Batteries.  We have often tried the off and less expensive brand but always came back to the known and reliable entity.

Hi Patricia Feager great choices.... I had to smile while reading about GE.... my only job during my college years was for two summers at the GE factory in Ashland MA working on a conveyor belt doing quality control for the GE timers.... I loved working with everyone as a team player on the conveyor belt.... fun days,...

Hi Patricia, I love your unique take on those 3 brands.  I would probably never even thought of the EverReady Battery....yet as Belinda Spillman pointed out, all we have to do is look around to find our favorite brands! I have those batteries in just about every room and a whole container of spares just waiting to be used.

Hi Patricia: Thanks for the reminder. Yes, love that Eveready Bunny! Think we have all owned a GE appliance. My first condo had a mustard colored GE double oven that worked for over 30 years. (I was the third owner) They don't make things to last anymore!

Hi Patricia - I also smiled when I read about the key to a successful marriage involved the purchase of General Electric products -- now, that's a powerful statement although I doubt it will ever be used in a marketing campaign.

Well, I would argue that "website" is not a brand, per se, but it is a product that I could not do without. I went rogue with my own site 5 years ago, separate from my brokerage, and am so happy I did.

I, too, have sort of stayed loyal to GE over the years. I have GE Profile in my kitchen, except for the dishwasher. I will never buy another GE dishwasher -- went through 3 motherboards. Kitchenaid seems better in that line of appliances.
