Why Was This Home Inspection Terminated?

By
Home Inspector with Foundation-2-Rooftop, Inc.

House is racked leaning to the right

Look at the cockeyed front door.  Look at the window openings.  Look at the ridge line of the 2nd floor over the garage.

Front door out of alignment

The front door was a good clue.

Then came the laser level readings of the first floor from left exterior wall to right:

1st floor, left exterior wall

1st floor, right wall

Then the laser level readings of the 2nd floor from left exterior wall to right:

2nd floor, left wall

2nd floor, right wall

Good evening Greg. The inspection was terminated? I guess the deal was as well.

Yes, it was.  There are some houses that are so bad, that it makes no sense to waste my time or my client's money.  When the client tells you to stop, it's not usually a good thing for the listing agent.  I gave the client a break on the inspection fee and only charged her for the time I spent on-site.

Now and then I run into lop-sided houses like this.  It's not my fault.  It's the house's fault and the dire condition they are in.  I just try to make the best of it and move onto the next one.

I think that it just makes good business sense to make that judgement call. And you'll have not only a Happy Client. But one that will use you again for being honest with them up front. I had a client the hired me three times before they found their dream home. I handled the same way.
