Can She Do it? Take a Vacation from Active Rain, that is...

My wrist hurts. My arm is numb from the shoulder down. My chiropractor tells me it's from typing too much. That sounds reasonable. I type A LOT.

Coincidently, I'm going on a little vacation tomorrow - heading back to Alabama to smell my just-getting-ready-to-bloom gardenias, do a little river fishing and play some darts in a smoky southern bar. I'm also going to try to stay off Active Rain for the duration. Give my wrist (and brain) a much-needed break.

Can I do it? I have no idea. I literally cannot remember the last full day I stayed away from the computer - but I know it's been YEARS.

I'll keep you posted. Wait, NO I WON'T!!! If all goes as planned, you won't hear from me until the middle of next week. By that time, my brain should be exploding with analogies, rants and lectures. I can't wait.

Ta-ta!

Jennifer

Jennifer,  I have to admit that I've done it.  There was a time where it was somewhat difficult, but I've also had the times where I've just done it for me.  Of course, then when you get back, sometimes you wonder what did I miss?  Do I have to catch up?  Anyway, enjoy your time in AL.

Have a wonderful time.  Gardenias are my favorite, love to smell that beautiful scent!

Jennifer,

Enjoy the trip, take pics, sell the house, and use the good arm for the fishing, darts and shots.

Have fun !

Good Luck, this will be a test to see if you need to join Active Rainers Anonymous. ;o)

Wonderful post.  Just a question though.  How did you get from LA (Lower Alabama) to God's country and why would you want to return?  It is getting hot, the tornados are started, the bugs are out, etc.  Right it must be about family or the gardenias (they will not grow in that part of God's country).

Enjoy your time away and well be bigger and stronger when you return.

I double-DOG dare you! =P  I couldn't do it. I have Fibromyalgia. My right traps, all the way to my forearm are in constant spasms.  I just take a muscle relaxer and keep typing  o.O

Have a great trip Jennifer.  I stayed away two weeks ago when I was in Orlando because I refused to pay Disney $9.95 a day for access.  It was really nice and I only cheated a little by checking email on my Palm and calling the office once.  That was really a lot for me.
ENJOY

Oh, NO!  What on earth will we do without you???   Seriously, don't worry about us...sniff, sniff...it's okay...we'll hang tough without...GO, enjoy yourself and STAY OFF THE COMPUTER!!!!  It will all be here when you get back.

Jennifer, have a great vacation.  I hope you make it thru the whole trip, but I don't think you will.  Not that you don't have the fortitude, you are too dedicated, and you will have to check "something".  We all do.  I know I can't stay away completely, too many things going on that need attention.  Is that dedication, or insanity?  Good luck to you.

Do not comment on this email.  I recently took a break from blogging and have decided to limit my time to one hour or less per day.  I, too, had a painful wrist and numb fingers--I decided to listen to my body and restructure my blogging time.--after all, we need to be able to type up those contracts and counter offers!

Morning Jennifer,

Being that is is the tenth now and a noted comment in the box right above me, I would have to conclude that you are in the same boat of most of us here in the Rain. The bright side of it, you/we couldn't be in better company.

Hope your wrist is feeling better. Enjoy your lil vacation.

Well, I'm not officially on vacation yet... flight delayed... thus a missed connection... thus lots of down time in airports around the country. I have to say - it's nice to have y'all here on AR to keep me entertained!!!! Anyone in Houston wanna come have a drink with me around 3pm?

Hey Jennifer good luck with your rehab stint. Smoky bars and river fishing should really help.

Enjoy the trip, Jennifer.

Have you ever tried switching the type of keyboard and mouse that you use? I used to have terrible problems with my right forearm and wrist. Would be in a brace for weeks at a time. But I changed my mouse to a trackball and I haven't been in a brace since (it's been several years). I also use an ergo keyboard, but it's not as vital as the mouse.

Might want to give it a try...

PS - just curious - steel or soft tips? I might have to take you on the next time you blow through St. Lou ;-P

Well it almost doesn't makes sense to wish you a wonderful time seeing as you have already gone and not going to read this until you return...or are you??? Are you being successful in staying off the computer or are you just quietly peeking in where no one can see you? Hopefully you are too busy with your gardenias and such :) So welcome back Jennifer, hope your trip was amazing!

Jennifer,  I'm ready for a get away myself.  Headed to Houston for a few days. I wonder if I can stay out of the rain while I'm there.   We'll see...

Guess staying away was just too hard huh?  Well, 2 days wasn't a bad effort!

05/19/2008 10:06 AM by Joshua and Kathy Schmidt (Coldwell Banker Advantage Realty-Cabot)

I did pretty good, actually! I checked in periodically, but I wrote very little. I even took an entire 36 hours away for a computer-less beach trip. It was definitely good for me (and my wrist is much better, too).

Although, I noticed that my AR ranking dropped one position... yikes!
