If you are in the market to purchase a new construction home in the Northern Virginia area of Fairfax and Loudoun county you know everything is an option which cost $$$$.
What is an Exterior Elevation on a home?
The elevation is the style of your home. Whether you get extra space by having a bay window elevation or fake dormers that add character to the home. Elevation like adding a front porch adds that character plus a place to hang out when kids are playing outside.
How do I decide if what elevation I want?
While in a townhome and condo style of home most builders now pre-determined the exterior elevation of the home. All you have to pick is the homesite.
On a single family home or a carriage/villa style homes, you may still have an option to pick from different styles. Each one cost raises your base price of the home. Apart from style, you choose adding brick front or a stone or a Hardiplank siding can add additional cost to your elevation.
In a long term does it matter what elevation I have on my home?
Yes and No.
Why No: I live in a community that is about 17+ years old. Many of the home buyers who buy in my own community buy because of the neighborhood and what home offers. And this holds true to some of the older communities like Chantilly Highland in Herndon, Penderboork or Hampton Chase in Fairfax or Tamarack in Vienna. All these location or neighborhood even though older homeowners have added their own style to the curb appeal. That adds personality to the home. I have been to homes that had basic vinyl sliding but adding a lush landscaping eliminated the boring sliding into a canvas.
Why Yes: If you are buying in a luxurious estate community everything will matter including the elevation. In a newer community while Northern Virginia home builder is still selling many of the Virginia buyers understand the cost difference of the elevation. Lastly, there are some home buyers who prefer a certain style of home. They rather wait for a home that attracts them when they first pull into their home over buying a home that does not have exterior characteristics.
Bottom line: If you are purchasing a home in the Northern Virginia area go with a balance of your budget and community. If you are in a prime location the elevation may underplay over the community that has box feeling having an elevation that helps to stand out your home may help you leverage while selling your home in any real estate market.
