When you get into real estate you get into business for yourself.  You plunge into a battle to survive that is much keener than most people experience while working for wages or a salary.  You do not build up seniority, accrue company benefits and go on strike for more money. When you want more money in real estate, you just go out and make it!

 

Few people get into the business to become top listing agents and many would never get into the business if they realized that listing is where the money is.  Agents that don’t list, on average, earn less than minimum wage, agents that do list, earn incomes on a par with almost all other professionals. But they don’t do it without a lot of effort, or without first learning their business.

 

The price of becoming a listing champion is high,  most people think it is to high but if you’re interested in making a lot of money, in the shortest amount of time and enjoying the perks that only a listing agents enjoys, then perhaps you’ll be one of the few willing to pay the price.  The choice is yours.

Nothing but the truth!!!

Have you read The Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller? I assume you are familiar with his concept that he doesn't look for buyers. He looks for listings and then the buyers come to him. Many agents spend their effort looking for buyers but then spend a much greater amount of time and effort on the sale.

Hi Beth and Richard... wise words, indeed. By the same token I've always liked to run my business 50/50. I believe that I'm a better seller's agent because I work with buyers and a better buyer's agent because I work with sellers.

Hi Beth - like Nina Hollander I incorporate both sellers and buyers in my business, most years about 60/40 sellers/buyers. My agent network grows when I list, which helps me when I represent buyers on one of their listings.

Beth, These days I only work with buyers were are referred to me or past clients. My primary focus in on listings.  It is nearly impossible to get a buyers offer accepted in my hot seller market.
