Spring Cleaning My Blog...Like Having Your Life Pass Before Your Eyes!

One of the goals of the ActiveRain contests and challenges is to nudge us into doing what it would be in our best interest to do. So it is with Debbie Laity ’s sweepingSpring Cleanup Challenge.

This is something that has been suggested to us for quite some time now but there’s nothing like a few points to make us get off of our behinds and get the job done, is there!?

What I did…

Since I knew absolutely nothing about blogging when I began my journey, it is there that I started. And rereading some of those posts was like looking at old pictures in a family album.

What I did to clean up my posts…

1.Increased my font from 12 to 14. It doesn’t seem like a lot but is a big help to the eyes.

2.Replaced clip-art or photos.

3.Enhanced the photos.

4.Repositioned some of the photos.

Early on in my blogging efforts, I had no idea how to wrap sentences around a photo or how to make sure my words didn’t run into the photos.

5.Inserted bold typeface in some areas to break up the words.

6. Added White Space to help the readers’ eyes.

I also increased the spacing between each line from single to 1.5.

7. (the big one) Checked my links.

8.Checked my spelling with an app that I did not have when I began blogging.  It’s called Grammarly.

9. Made sure I had some kind of Call to Action in my posts.

There’s still time to enter Debbie’s challenge, and even if you’re not one to enter these kinds of things, it’s still not a bad idea to do some spring cleaning on your own posts!

Good morning, Kathy --- I recently started doing some of this cleaning...I've found more than a few dust bunnies in the crevices of my posts.

I felt the same way Kathy Streib , i have gone back three times for this chore and still have a ways to go as i spent more time reading and remembering than cleaning.

Hi Kathy Streib - Nice job with your Spring Clean-up effort!  I have been in a habit of doing this since I changed my domain name around 2 years ago. I still find old blogs surfacing that I have to fix.

I am too Barbara Todaro and I'm doing a few each day even after the challenge ends.

James Dray I did a few while watching each basketball game.

Wayne Martin even if you don't get it done for the challenge, it's a good thing to do.

Hi Ginny Gorman I've been working on mine, we have more house guests on the way!

Nathan Gesner I use Google Docs to write all of my posts.  It's a great way to keep your posts for future reference, as well as edit them.  That' how I can increase the spacing. Good luck with it!

Thank you Sham Reddy

LOL Gabe Sanders well some of mine made me cringe!

I agree Dorie Dillard If nothing else, I needed to increase my font size.

Joe Pryor I'm pretty sure none of mine had that.

Donald Urschalitz you crack me up!!!

Michael Jacobs I understand, I had to get out the big mac of vacuums for mine.

Sharon Lee it's like they say when repotting your orchids...only tackle 3 at a time.  You'll get bored and sloppy otherwise.

Kathy I totally understand! It is a walk down memory lane for me as well - and I've been enjoying it a lot.  I've pretty much down what you've done and they look so much better now.  Spring Cleaning at it's finest!!
