Homes for Sale in the Greenwich Forest Community of Bethesda, MD 20817

Why Do People Live here?

Greenwich Forest is a small community of treelined streets just a short walk from downtown Bethesda. It is next to Suburban Hospital, part of Johns Hopkins Medical University, and across the street from the National Institutes of Health. Some of the original 100 homes built between 1938 and 1950 are Tudors, in keeping with the Greenwich Forest name, while others are cape cods.  Because of its proximity to downtown Bethesda, this has been a popular location for builders to tear down existing homes and put in new homes more suited to the tastes of today's buyers.

It is an easy commute to downtown Washington via Wisconsin Ave or River Road. Of course, the Beltway is not far away to take you to other parts of the metro area and the Metro is an easy walk too. Still, Greenwich Forest seems worlds away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Washington DC.

What's the Neighborhood Like?

Greenwich Forest is a community of only 101 homes, located on Charlcote Road, Custer Road, Hampden Road, parts of Moorland Road, and Northfield Road.  Built between 1938 and 1950, the homes were Tudors, cape cods or colonials.  The homes from this era in the Greenwich Forest neighborhood reflect consumer expectations from that period and range in size between 1100 and 1800 square feet.

The smallest homes in the neighborhood start with 3 bedrooms and one bath upstairs,  but many have been renovated over the years, creating homes which are more in line with current tastes. In addition since this is a beautiful community close to the downtown area of Bethesda it attracts many developers looking to build larger craftsman style or Tudoresque homes.   The lots range between .12 and .33 acre and are filled with mature trees and lush plantings like the signature azaleas that make Washington so beautiful in the spring.

What's Going on Near the Greenwich Forest Neighborhood?

Greenwich Forest is located close to Huntington Parkway and Old Georgetown Road.  It is an easy walk into downtown Bethesda along Old Georgetown Road as you pass the Bethesda Rescue League on Battery and then the restaurants and shops begin. You are less than 2 miles from downtown Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle with just about every kind of conceivable shop and restaurant imaginable.  This is my favorite part of Bethesda because the shops and restaurants are unique and locally owned.  If you want to eat at a real diner, be sure to go to Tastee Diner on Woodmont Avenue. I love the burgers at BGR across the street and of course, you can't miss the Vieux Logis for old style French cuisine.  You also are just a few blocks from some of the best research facilities in the world at the National Institutes of Health and Suburban Hospital, part of Johns Hopkins.
