North Broadway Bridge during 2011 flood

If you live in Minot ND welcome to today, the 1st day of the next two years of your life.

To the right is the North Broadway bridge in Minot as it was during the 2011 flood. Both lanes were closed and people had to find alternative routes to travel between North and South Minot.

This bridge is going to be re-built, starting today, and is projected to take two years to complete. The good news is that unlike during the flood there will be one lane open in each direction.

Broadway is Minot North Dakota's main route between North and South Minot so if you are going to use this route PLEASE have patience and show the construction workers some common courtesy.

Oh boy - I bet that is going to be challenging.  Hopefully there are some alternate routes.

Bob, Rebuilding is always necessary yet it does pose delays and much inconvenience.  Finding alternate routes and being creative about those routes will help alleviate the frustration.

Hi Bob... we've had tons of new road construction where I live for several years... it was a pain in the you-know-what living through it, but now that most of it is done, it was worth the wait, which I'm sure it will be in Minot, as well.

It will be an inconvenience Belinda Spillman but it should be pretty manageable. I'm just going to make sure I'm no where near it during the evening rush hour.

I know it will be nice as we have had a bottle neck in that area for years Nina Hollander . I'm sure I will enjoy it when it's done.

Bob agreed, everybody needs to have patience for in the long run it will be a great new bridge.  We've got a ton of construction going on here too. They close a major freeway I17 from Friday night to Monday am from one intersection to the another (about a mile or so). And the re-routing is a pain, especially for out of town folks not expecting this huge delay.

Bob-Progress always has a phase that isn't fun but obviously necessary. Glad to here you have alternate routes planned.

Good morning Bob.  Some may cuss and gripe now, but when it's finished they'll be the first to say what a great idea it was.

Anna Banana Kruchten in North Dakota the joke is that we have two seasons, Winter and Road Construction. No one here is surprised but we are often baffled as to how to navigate around it all.

They sure are a pain William Feela but when done correctly they remain pain free for about 10 years.

Sharon Lee those alternative routes are few as we only have 4 North/South routes in Minot and that drops down to 3 of there is a train on either one of the two major rail lines have a train on the track.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel to us non-engineers the bridge seems perfectly fine but I would bet that if we knew what those engineers know we would be very happy they are replacing that bridge as well. Thanks, hope you have a great week as well.

I am going to do my best not to grumble about it James Dray . I think the key will be to plan ahead and not be in a hurry. I know at the end of the construction that if there is not a party to celebrate it's completion I myself will organize one!
