The year was 2013, and my friend Joe took me to lunch and told me that joining eXp Realty would change my life. I was skeptical, but since my friend had already saved my real estate career once prior to that during the economic downturn, I decided to enjoy a free meal and to listen.
Joe told me that this small but promising real estate company would allow me to work with not only buyers and sellers, but would allow me to develop an entirely new revenue stream by recruiting other agents and earning revenue share. I told him I didn't care about revenue share, that I wasn't a recruiter, but that the company sounded innovative and exciting, and that I wanted to be a part of something like that.
After we finished eating, in an unusually quick decision on my part, we got in Joe's car together, went to my real estate brokerage, took my license off the wall and I joined eXp Realty on the spot.
In my spite of my midwestern upbringing and the skeptisism that an upbringing like that breeds, I had a gut feeling that this could be something big.
Well I'm please to announce that the little real estate startup that I took a chance on in 2013 has now started to grow into the real estate brokerage of my dreams.
It took eXp Realty 6 years to reach 1,000 agents, another 8 months to reach 2,000 agents, and then only 4 months to reach 3,000 agents.
That's what you call exponential growth folks!

No, I didn't get lucky and know the guy (Glenn Sanford) who founded the company. And no. I didn't invest $30,000 in cash in the business. I've earned my ownership. I've earned it by capping every year I've been with the company (it's east to cap, it only takes about 2.6MM in volume), and I've earned it by introducing others to exp Realty ( I have 7 people in two states in my downline), and I've earned it by enrolling in the direct purchase program where I've opted to have 5% of my gross commissions go towards the purchase of company stock at a 20% discount.
So thanks, Joe, for buying me lunch that day and telling me that this opportunity was too good to pass up. You were right, and I'm sure glad that I listened.
