As realtors we tend to remember the deals that go bad or a client's lack of appreciation.

Yet if you think about it there are many more who show their appreciation; and to all those buyers and sellers I want to say, THANK YOU! You brighten my day and inspire me to carry on.

I reflected on this, this past week.  You see, a couple I helped find a house three years ago had a realtor appreciation day.  Yes they actually cooked me lunch.  This couple is still happy with the house, the area, and the realtor.

The time we spent together was used to discuss the existing real estate market, catch up on the most recent grandchild photos, gardening and just life in general.  I left there feeling great, and I was motivated to go find more clients like this couple.  What a difference from the clients who lack appreciation, never giving a thought to all the advertising dollars spent, the endless phone calls, the days you get stood up and most of all begrudging the commission negotiated.

Yes some clients do get it - realtors are professionals and our time is valuable.

To complete the week, I received a call from another past client who wanted to give me a referral.  She said she thought of me right away and knew her friend would be in good hands.

So please join me in thanking all those past clients and prospects who really get it.  Realtors provide a service which should be acknowledged and paid for.

We are not door mats.

What a great, positive story to share!  That's proof of the value you provide in what could be just a cold transaction, when you build the relationship that spans so much time.

Absolutely ...we have a story we tell during the presentation that shares the positive behavior of a grateful client vs one that didn't have the word thank you in their vocabulary.  They usually get the picture.

Teri, that is a good suggestion, people like to force more on the negatives.

I am been very fortunate in that most of the clients I have had stay in contact for many years.  My very 1st clients - always remind me they are #1.  I get lots of pictures of the kids -- and it is great that they stay in contact! It certainly makes all the long hours worthwhile!

Hi Jennifer,

This was a delightful post!  What a Breath of Fraiche Aire...thank you for including our group in posting your article.  Usually most of us think of Realtor Appreciation days from lenders or other affiliates with whom we do business...but when YOUR Client gives you a Realtor Appreciation Day, that is beyond Special!  I join with you in being thankful for clients who...get it!

Lola it feels good to be appreciated considering the time and effort that goes into selling or listing properties.  I have some very special past clients.

Keeping in touch with all past clients is critical. Even if they did not have a great experience, sometimes it may not have been you. It may have been a life situation. A thank you card and a birthday card or a well meaning phone call and warm the relationship up after their situation is over.

Again...excellent post.
