Some would say the shortest joke in the world is "Military Intelligence."
Everybody knows that the shortest joke in the world is “French Resistance.” It is much more complicated and nuanced, therefore funnier
I always thought that joke was pretty funny, because most jokes become funnier when you add “French” or “France” to them – “Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without bag-pipes. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage,” etc.
But it turns out many use humor to “criticize others and veil an attack,”“delivers sarcasm or cynicism” and “may be perceived as immature or lacking in appropriate seriousness.”
In fact, “French Resistance” pretty much violates all the “overdoing humor” guidelines. Whether you prefer 'Freedom Fries' or 'French Fries,' a little refresher course my prove benefical.
Let's review how a big corporation like Microsoft breaks down humor into a handy table with four levels of proficiency so that people can learn to be funny and use that skill in the workplace.
I found the idea of a huge corporation teaching the use of humor pretty entertaining. And, yes, humorous.
When it comes to humor this stuff can’t be taught or learned, but it is the kind of thing that big companies spend endless amounts of time teaching to mid-level managers.
Using humor in marketing is like an open flame and gasoline. There are a lot of variables and the result could be explosive!
Think about all the time you spent reading and how often the recipient of 'DILBERT' humor. In every effort at humor, the risk of a Dilbert being present is high. And today, DILBERT, has access to social media.
When you choose humor as the appeal method of your advertising, critically review the effort looking to see if it is an effort to “criticize others and veil an attack,” “delivers sarcasm or cynicism” and “may be perceived as immature or lacking in appropriate sseriousness.”
What message does this attempt at real estate humor convey?
Criticize others?
Veil an attack?
Delivers Sarcasm?
Delivers cynicism?
Of course, we all know some who will admit, "They don't have time for this." For them it is "Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes."
This is the 'middle-management' stuff that gave birth to DILBERT.

PS: Share your humor backfire stories. Do you recall Toad's misfire with publishing a modified bar drink called Irish Carbomb. The name of the drink is in the standard 'MIXOLOGY' book and searchable online. That didn't matter in this PC world.
