Just a little piece of land? Please?

Okay.  Gas is getting pretty pricey.  I'm not doing any unneccessary driving...Driving is part of my livelihood.  I am cutting back on my driving, but I can only cut back so much in my line of work.

My question is - Can't we use some land in Alaska (or wherever) to drill for oil of our own?  Wouldn't that help make the price go down?

Now, I'm no expert on such things, but I don't see the problem.  I heard that there is oil in Alaska (and other places in the U.S.), so, why can't we drill there?  I just don't get  it...

It's election time.  Nothing makes sense in politics.

Debi, that is the $64 million question. Yes, there's oil in Alaska - that they want us to drill for (but Washington doesn't), and yes there's oil off Florida (that the Chinese are going to drill for but Floridians are afraid of spoiling their beaches) and yes there could be wind farms in New England (but of course not where anyone can see them). It's the old "not-in-my-backyard" syndrome.

Steve -  If I had some land with oil on it, I wouldn't mind selling it to them...  :)
