Coca-Cola is a family word and I have warm memories of it being a treat growing up. I prefer Pepsi now but can still drink a Coke and appreciate it.

Debbie Reynolds - It was a very rare treat in my house growing up and I rarely let my kids have it too. It was interesting for me to see that when they grew up, they didn't have a preference for it or fast foods either.
Beautifully written post, Patricia! I completely agree that without integrity, responsibility/accountability and trust, that slogan and logo are not worth the product/service on which they are written! You have a responsibility to live up to what you market and in my opinion, it's not about the money - it's about the service (in our line of work) and the integrity you practice to back that service.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - I really put a lot of thought into writing this post. I wanted it to have meaning, and not just a photograph of something old. That's why I sincerely appreciate your comment. Too often people in business are encouraged to use branding and slogans without any thought about what it means. What good is it to create something brilliant and to achieve lots of success and money if there is no trust? That's why I really liked your comment so much. You summarized it all so beautifully! Thank you!

You're so welcome. It's not all about the picture, is it, Patricia? I look for the deeper meaning - I'm into thought-provoking posts and this was certainly a great example of one! Happy Saturday!
I enjoyed reading your post. I hope others will read it too.

Gita Bantwal - I am grateful to the few people like you who seem to like my writing style. Thank you!
I loved singing the "I'd like to teach the world to sing" song, too! It was a wonderfully catchy song with a great commercial! Like many others who commented here, I can't remember the last time I had soda, but I was a Pepsi fan in terms of flavor. Can't remember any catchy Pepsi advertising, though! Lol! In real estate, each of us is our own brand! We create and communicate the message of what we stand for and who we are in every interaction. Thank you for the creatively written post, Patricia Feager!

Thank you Patricia Feager for sharing this. Coca Cola is an icon in Atlanta - if you ask for a soda in Atlanta you will get a coke. Coke has grown from a small soda shop with local sales to a mega corporation that delivers its product globally - the term "Coke-a-Cola" has crossed many barriers of language, culture and nationalism and fostered friendship and good will in this world. Trully "Coke-a-Cola" is more than just a soda. They took branding to a an absolute zenith! Great post!

Jim Crawford - Thank you for the nice compliment for a product you believe in so highly! I have to agree with you, "they took branding to an absolute zenith," when branding wasn't such a big deal. Many soda companies tried to follow, but never achieved the same success. I was also impressed with the fact that Coca-Cola patented their green glass bottle in 1915 and put so much time in the design efforts to make it fit comfortably in the consumer's hands and they made it distinct and recognizable! The history behind the design concept and their logo was genius!!!
I'm allergic to something in the dark sodas, including coke and pepsi, so can't comment about the products. What I can say is that I would definitely choose a brand that is ethical, \cares about the environment/customers over one with a catchy jingle.

Kat Palmiotti - I'm with you all the way - a company brand that is globally ethical is my first choice too! Those catchy jingles were fun to sing when I was young as well! And I still remember the words!!!
Good morning Patricia Feager ,
I'm so glad Carol Williams carried your post in her Saturday morning series. I missed this one! It is very important to understand you have a responsibility to live up to what you market. It's all about the service and the integrity you practice to back that service which start with moral and ethical standard operating practices that you utilize in each and every transactions. You do pour your heart out in every stroke you make on the keyboard and we all appreciate your thoughtful, well written posts..some how the AR Gods missed this one for a feature.

Good morning Patricia. This is excellent! Branding matters sometimes more than experience.
This made me think of the TV show Mad Men. Don't know if you watched it. (Mad Men is a retro show about the advertising business) I binged it after the series had ended. I LOVED it and was emotionally moved when it ended. The ending actually had to do with that famous COKE commercial.
Anyways, I'm partial to companies with strong branding. Jeep and Harley Davidson to name two. However, I must believe in the product. It's all about quality and customer satisfaction for me.
Goes to the heart of what Zig Ziglar used to say: "Help enough other people get what they want and they will help you get what you want.".
Or the Golden Rule, or Karma. You get what you give.

Your gentle comments about the ar gods were very thoughtful and important for me to hear. I'm glad there are people like you who think of me highly enough even if, I'm not feature worthy.
Sheila Anderson - Thank you for letting me know you thought it was an excellent post. You really need to know how important it is for me to hear this.
