There's an election about to happen in Addison, Texas. The mayor's seat and three council seats are up for grabs. The election is May 6th and early voting starts April 24th. The last day to register to vote is April 6th for the May election.

Whether you are a long-time resident of Addison, or new to our little town, you should be an informed citizen and come out to vote.  One way to learn about the candidates and their positions is to attend a Candidate Forum, sponsored by the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, the Addison Business Association, the Addison Rotary, South and Western, the Nolan Family, and Mad Batter Bakery. Here are the details about the forum scheduled for April 12, 2017:

Date and Time: Wednesday, April 12th, 7:00-9:00 pm

Location: Addison Conference Centre, 15650 Addison Road

Purpose: Opportunity for the candidates and citizens of Addison to meet and talk

Participants: Both candidates for Mayor (Joe Chow and Blake Clemens) have been invited. The seven candidates for the three council seats (Lori Ward, Tom Braun, Ivan Hughes, Sheila Barkofske, Marlin Wilesen, Dale Wilcox and John Price) have been invited.

Format

  • Each candidate will have three minutes for an introduction to talk about their reasons for running for office and their vision for Addison.
  • Candidates will be asked questions submitted in advance by Addison residents. To submit your questions, send them to addisoncandidatesqa@gmail.com and they will be reviewed for non-combativeness and relevance to issues important to Addison and its residents.
  • Each candidate will have one minute to make a closing statement.

Additional information: There will be tables for each candidate set up to allow attendees to ask additional questions (presumably before and after the public forum) one-on-one. Refreshments will be available, including coffee, tea, soft drinks, water, and snacks.

Our town has become just as divisive as the country as a whole, even though the local elections are non-partisan. There used to be something called The Addison Way. The employees of Addison, the council, the mayor would try to find a way to "yes" on all issues. Unfortunately, the current leader has adopted the "my way or the highway" approach and there are several candidates who have been hand-picked to continue on in that path. It's time to get Addison back on track.

If you'd like to know who I'm voting for, drive past my house after April 6th (the earliest that lawn signs are supposed to be allowed, although the current mayor's hand-picked candidate for his seat has violated this rule). Or just ask me. And if you're not registered to vote, I can help. I've been deputized and can get you registered. If you don't vote, you shouldn't complain afterword!
