Baba Coffee in Carlsbad Village

Baba Coffee in Carlsbad Village

Baba Coffee is a newish coffee shop in Carlsbad Village (opened in June 2016 I believe), and despite driving by multiple times I haven’t stopped in to check it out until yesterday.

Inside Baba in Carlsbad Village It was a gorgeous afternoon and I was in the Village running errands, and there was parking right in front, so it was the perfect time. Besides, I needed a caffeine boost and espresso sounded like the right idea.

I really like the urban vibe of this place, with plentiful seating indoors and out. There are garage-type doors that open up in several places to bring in the outdoors, and seating right out front on the sidewalk affords one the opportunity to take in Carlsbad Village street life.

Baba Coffee in Carlsbad I didn’t have anything to eat but in addition to Pannikin coffee, a variety of teas, and craft beers, they serve light food plus Prager Bros. bread, pastries from Pannikin, VG Donuts (a long-time and well-known bakery in Cardiff by the Sea), and other goodies from Cravory in Carlsbad.

Baba is named after a 16th Century Sufi who allegedly smuggled 7 coffee beans from Yemen into India and introduced that country to the wonders of coffee (so says Wikipedia).

Baba Coffee is located just east of Grand Avenue on State Street, next to the newer and highly-touted Campfire Restaurant, and just in front of the urban winery and tasting room, Carruth Cellers, also fairly new (with a location in Solana Beach, too). Well worth a visit while enjoying some time in the Village, or bring your laptop and hang out for a while! Check them out on Facebook.

Jeff like you love to check out new coffee establishments, but next thing I know a year just flew by before I actually stop in, now with that said it is a good problem to have. I remember when we were not that busy as well as when we had virtually no choices outside of the one Green Chain Shop....Endre

There are a bunch of coffee shops around now, but I rarely visit them Endre Barath, Jr. except for meeting clients. I normally have one cup in the early morning and that's it.

I have stopped drinking coffee during the day, for the most part, after the first one. But I like knowing about great places to meet clients! And I like those places that are a bit more edgy and different, or that remind me of places in Europe! If I am going to hang out I want to enjoy the experience

Only in southern California would a shop exist in which coffee drinkers are paired with beer and wine drinkers. Seems like an odd combination to toss together into one environment. Not to mention, a lot of coffee drinkers are former alcoholics. But I guess it works in Carlsbad! If nothing else, there is a liquor store right across the street, LOL.
