Baba Coffee in Carlsbad Village
Baba Coffee is a newish coffee shop in Carlsbad Village (opened in June 2016 I believe), and despite driving by multiple times I haven’t stopped in to check it out until yesterday.
It was a gorgeous afternoon and I was in the Village running errands, and there was parking right in front, so it was the perfect time. Besides, I needed a caffeine boost and espresso sounded like the right idea.
I really like the urban vibe of this place, with plentiful seating indoors and out. There are garage-type doors that open up in several places to bring in the outdoors, and seating right out front on the sidewalk affords one the opportunity to take in Carlsbad Village street life.
I didn’t have anything to eat but in addition to Pannikin coffee, a variety of teas, and craft beers, they serve light food plus Prager Bros. bread, pastries from Pannikin, VG Donuts (a long-time and well-known bakery in Cardiff by the Sea), and other goodies from Cravory in Carlsbad.
Baba is named after a 16th Century Sufi who allegedly smuggled 7 coffee beans from Yemen into India and introduced that country to the wonders of coffee (so says Wikipedia).
Baba Coffee is located just east of Grand Avenue on State Street, next to the newer and highly-touted Campfire Restaurant, and just in front of the urban winery and tasting room, Carruth Cellers, also fairly new (with a location in Solana Beach, too). Well worth a visit while enjoying some time in the Village, or bring your laptop and hang out for a while! Check them out on Facebook.
