Frank Dwight Baldwin was born in Manchester, Michigan back in 1842. Sorry I can’t relate to you what he did as a youngster but I can tell you the rest of the story. this is going to be short and sweet.
He joined the 19th Michigan Infantry during the Civil War fighting in all of his regiment’s battles from 1862 to 1865. After the war, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army assigned to the 5th U.S. Infantry. He saw action on the Red river in Montana in 1876, for his actions he was promoted to Captain.
He also served with distinction during the campaigns against Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Serving in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War he was promoted to Brigadier General in 1902 and to Major General in 1906 when he retired from duty. He died in Denver Colorado in1923 he was 80. Now can you tell me what he is most noted for in the history books of this United States? That’s okay for you see he is only one of 19 military people to earn the Medal of Honor twice during his service.
