I believe in many brands...most of us do. I am sure the brands I trust may be on the Do Not Use list of some people who may read this. That is okay...I trust them and that is what I care about.
These brands have treated us well. Here they are:
First is General Motors vehicles:
Mike McCann-Broker endorses Chevy Suburbans as the vehicle of choice for Farm Land Brokers. This Suburban pictured has been in cornfields, wheat fields, hay meadows, bean fields, woods, trail roads, and thousands of miles of gravel roads.
I have owned several GM vehicles built in every decade since the 1940's. I have driven well over 2 million miles during that time including over 1200 miles this week alone. Only once has a GM vehicle ever left me stranded because of a mechanical failure attributed to the vehicle.
Even then...I was able to limp to the dealer and get repairs.
I/we have owned a 1948 Chevy pickup...a 1959 and 1962 Chevy Biscayne...1960, 1960, 1965, and 1968 Impala's...a 1965 El Camino...1970 Chevy Blazer river rat...a 1973 Camaro*...a 1978 Caprice Classic...1968 and 1974 Chevy C 10 pickups...a 1981 Chevy Silverado Diesel...a 1968 Oldsmobile 88...a 1964 Chevy Station wagon...1964 Corvair convertible...1964 Malibu... 2 - 1987 Pontiac Bonnevilles (black and at the same time...dumb idea)...a 1984 Cavalier hatchback...a 1978 Olds Cutless...a 1983 GMC conversion van**, 1987 Chevy S-10...1997 GMC Suburban...2002 GMC Yukon XL...2009 Tahoe...and now a 2006 Monte Carlo SS and a 2013 Chevy Suburban***. All were reliable and good vehicles. I may have forgotten a couple of vehicles in this list.
*Fastest car I owned...most tickets I ever received...babe magnet back in the day. My brother wrecked it. I still miss that Camaro!
**Conversion van I bought that empty inside new and it needed converting. The first year we had an Octagon kitchen table and 6 roller chairs with arm rests. We had a blast driving that to ball torunaments and just cruising...then I finished it and it was too nice to do that with anymore. Traded it and while the dealer was test driving it...he sideswiped one of his own cars on the lot and did over $5,000 damae to our truck. I never drove it again as we got a very good deal on a trade!!
***2013 Suburban This vehicle is probably too nice to be in the fields but it handles it with grace and has the most features and comforts of any vehicle I have ever owned...including electric running boards that fold up and out of the way for when I am in the fields.
The 2nd thing I trust is also a vehicle brand...JEEP
We have owned a 1994, 1996, and a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My wife still drives the 1997 every day and last week we took it on a 150 mile excursion.
We also currently own a 2006 Jeep Liberty that has been a great vehicle. We have oned a 1994 and a 1998 Jeep cherokee. They were driven by our kids in high school. We sold to a local family the 1994 and he got broadsided a year later. The following year he bought our 1998 and is still driving it.
I take our Jeeps in the mountains and in and out of gullys and washouts and creeks and streams and they keep going and going! In fact...tomorrow we are going to buy a 2013 Grand Cherokee for my wife. And keep the 1997 as a backup vehicle.
We have had at least one Jeep in the family for the past 23 years. There will always be a Jeep in our lives...they have ben too good to us in both summer and winter. We do not get stopped by bad weather. Last year I was breaking drifts getting to people who needed to get groceries or dug out.
The third thing I trust is Apple iPhones. I got drug into the smart phone age by my son who was leaving to do an internship in Washignton DC for a Senator. That was over 4 years ago in January 2013. The one I am currently using has been indestructable. My wife and son are still using theirs as well.
It also has been the single most important tool in my arsenal...maybe more important than my truck.
I can read contracts, pdfs, send contracts, scan, take photos and stay in such close contact...I still thank my son for dragging me kicking and screaming along to get the phone. One caveat to all Real Estate agents...if your cell phone takes bad interior photos...please do not put them on the internet...your clients deserve better.
My choices probably are different than a lot of people...but these choices have kept me connected to family and friends and clients...whether in person...or from a distance... this was typed on another good product ...my 6 year old Windows 7 computer!!
PS...The white Yukon Xl in the top photograph had 249,000 miles on it when the photo was taken right before I traded it off. That was the best vehicle I have ever owned!
