Spring Cleaning of Blog Posts in Katy TX

Debbie Laity  who is an agent with Cedaredge Land Company created a March 2017 Challenge requiring participants to go back and clean-up prior posts. I started in Activerain back in 2007 but I did not really get going with writing regular posts until around May 2011. I decided the early posts were so terrible it would be depressing plus tortious to go back and reread and modify these horrible posts.

I took the scatter gun approach of looking for recent posts where I was confident I could make improvements fairly ( or so I thought at first) easily and correct errors. Updating data, pictures and checking links was part of my process. This whole process will take many more hours to completely review and change all the posts needing attention. I will put this on my to do list and go back to it as time allows. I did go back to clean-up more than 10 posts required for this challenge. A few I posted once again with current information. Trust me this was hard enough let alone looking at all the other posts needing attention.

One major area needing improvement was font size as well as font style. These days I tend to use 14 point Arial or Comic Sans MS as the style. Many of my posts were written in 12 point or less font in the past. I also found a lot of underlining of certain words or combinations of words plus making certain items Bold. I have eliminated a lot of this underlining and bolding words practice.

I did find old posts where the topics were annual events in or around the Katy area. Katy has many annual events which have lasted for more years and local residents look forward to going each year. I used the original posts as a guide and rewrote several of these types of posts which I then posted once again. I also made sure the current data was included and featured item(s) were added or deleted as needed. I deleted old pictures and added new ones. Tags used were based on what I thought was important today as I did not even look at the tags or groups used when the post was originally posted. I know it took me longer to update these types of posts than it did to write them when it was first created.

As I said above this is a work in process and will take a large effort as well as time to complete.

Hi Bob

This was definitely a tough challenge for all of us but well worth the time spent. I found many of the same issues you did, and there is so much more to do.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I had kind of vowed to spring clean some of my older posts this month.  Alas, I didn't follow through!  However, I will continue to put it on my task list, until accomplished.
