"I'll get it!!" These are the words you would hear in my house when I was young...someone claiming responsibility for anwsering one of the 2 rotary phones in our 3 story home.
So many days I tried in vain to be caller 1 to the local radio show trying to win concert tickets. ::shakes fist in the air::

Gloria - We still say something similar, but we say "you get it." We still have a land line, but the phone is in the kitchen. So if we are in the family room, someone has to go get the phone when it rings.

I remember those words, "I'll get it," also! Only we were all on one floor, with a single phone.

Susan Haughton that's funny...the princess phone! I remember a neighbor had one of those!
Debbie Reynolds We did also!!! A race to the phone...then if it was for you, trying to get your sibling to get off the other line so you could talk privately!!!
Emily Medvec yes now it is trying to get to the phone and figuring out where I placed it!
Troy Erickson that's funny! You get it! I guess in my house we were all hoping for someone to call each of us personally!
Sharon Lee yes I remember when we got a new hallway phone with a long cord so we could close ourselves in a bedroom.
Thanks Sheila Anderson ! Slower times...
Anna Banana Kruchten, CRS Wow you beat my family by one! 7 of us...and yes it often was a race to the phone!!

Nick & Trudy Vandekar I too remember my parents' phone number BRoadway 2-0740! England...a lovely country! Hope you get back there to visit now and again!
Oh, the old rotary phone was so much fun! I don't think I every dialed the wrong number either. But then again, as a kid, it was a privilege to dial the phone or receive a call. Those times were rare. I can still hear the sound of the rotary dial.... and the brrring, brrring, brrring, too!
What a lovely memory!
The rotary dial phone and the party line served our country well for close to fifty years Gloria Todor. Sometimes I miss the old days
