Seriously! Excuse Me! I Don't have Time For This ...
No Means No
As a Member of ActiveRain we have contests where we are challenged to share different stories. This month we have been asked to share a Pet Peeve ... something that drives me absolutely crazy, annoys, irritates, angers, irks, exasperates, tries my patience, gets on my nerves or ruffles my feathers. You get the idea.
As I thought about different scenarios in My Life as a Realtor ... there were a number of things that came to my mind, but the one that seemed to come to the Top of the List was "unsolicited phone calls" from a variety of people fending for my business (or should I say My Hard-Earned Money), live and/or recorded messages, Script-Reading Sales Reps, Robo-Calls or Dead-Air calls where no one is on the other end of the phone. Really?
Usually, about 100% of the time, I am busy, under the gun, getting ready to leave on an important appointment, finishing up a project, writing an offer, negotiating or trouble-shooting a client's problem, or doing the many multi-tasking functions that come with being a Realtor who prides herself on being on time or ahead of schedule, all the time. But then the phone rings ...
1. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING, WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ...
2. DON'T HANG UP ...
3. TODAY IS YOUR LUCKY DAY!
4. Hi Diana! So glad we finally got a chance to talk, you got a minute (hour)?
5. SUCH A DEAL WE HAVE FOR YOU TODAY!
6. YOU NEED TO BE ON THE FIRST PAGE OF GOOGLE!
7. WE ARE TAKING A SURVEY, DO YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES?
8. FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN MAKE $100,000 WORKING 5 HOURS PER WEEK
Probably the most irritating calls are those that can't take No for an answer without coming back with another objection, or like they did not hear me say No Thanks and just keep on talking. I say No thank you again and then on the third time around -- now I'm offended -- so I hang up the phone frustrated and wondering What do you not understand about the word "No"?
Now don't get me wrong, if I get a call from a vendor, another Realtor, a past or current client or prospective buyer or seller or renter ... Your Time is My Time ... that's what I do for a living. And I Love what I do, and Do what I Love!
Hope you enjoyed this Pet Peeve story! If you know anyone who is interested in real estate in Southeastern Wisconsin, I'll be happy to talk with you! I Promise! Give me a Call!
No Robo-Calls Please.
