I'm sure you've heard the stories of a letter or bill arriving days or weeks after it was sent.  (This happens about once a month with me - when my tenants' rent checks are due!)

Here in the City of Chicago, and in select adjoining suburbs, however, the overnight delivery rate for first class mail actually IMPROVED in 2007, according to a study conducted by the U.S. Postal Service here.

According to Postal Service findings, within the 606, 607, and 608 Zip Code Prefixes that serve Chicago and six close-in suburbs abutting the city, overnight first class delivery rate is currently 95%, compared to 90% in 2006.  Delivery for two and three day mail also improved.

The on-time percentage here in Chicago for other types of mail - Parcel Post, Priority Mail, and Express Mail, was not released.

Dean - I think my mail person here in Chicago is part of some USPS community outreach program to hire illiterate people.  Not a day goes by without someone else's mail mixed in with mine.
