Mondays Madness- Skullduggery- Fun in Home Inspections
Wenatchee Home Inspections.
Today’s fun is called “skullduggery”.
As a home inspector, I never underestimate what I will find during the inspection.
As a pet owner myself finding this cat skull was a little sad but my intrigue of the macabre took over.
We have 5 rescue pets (2 dogs, 3 cats) in the family, actually 4 now my son left the nest and took one with him.
And now a little Feline History fun.
From the Humane Society-
“U.S. households that own a pet (bird, cat, dog, horse, fish, reptile, small animal) – 62% (72.9 million households).
U.S. households that own a cat – 30 to 39% (35.3 to 45.9 million households)
Estimated U.S. cat population – 74 to 86 million (household pets)
Estimate - Another 50 million cats are feral or community cats”
The USA has about 76 million cats, and they are one of the most favored pets of the USA's citizens. China comes in second with about 53 million cats and a distant third is Russia at around 13 million. There is an estimated 600 million cats globally.
How many breeds are there? There are varying numbers of recognized cat breeds depending on who’s counting. (As of 2016)
The International Progressive Cat Breeders Alliance (IPCBA) recognizes 73 cat breeds.
The International Cat Association (TICA) recognizes 58 breeds.
The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) recognizes 44 breeds
The Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) recognizes 43.
Currently, scientists estimate that our beloved cat friends have lived with people for around 12,000 years. From a “Science” article it was stated that all of the domestic cats descended from a Middle Eastern wildcat, Felis sylvestris, which literally means "cat of the woods." But it may also be that the cat was domesticated more than once, some evidence from China now suggest that another cat was domesticated called the Leopard Cat.
This means that the cat may now join the pig as one of the only animals that have been domesticated more than once. Who would've known this?
When working on your home, remember you should always have a qualified professional to do your work.
Hiring a qualified home and structural pest inspector to review the home to ensure everything is safe and correct.
