Mall of America Minneapolis

I just got back from a few days in Minneapolis. Too cold for me, I'd never make it in the Winter. Even with the Mall of America as a refuge. Or maybe especially with the Mall of America as a refuge. Don't misunderstand me, it was well-designed: pretty, accessible, all the usual food courts. The Aquarium was AMAZING and my son had a great time in the amusement park. We even caught a round of miniature golf. I would have flown FlyOver America a dozen times if I could.

But there is A LOT of STUFF at the Mall. It's so large it has multiples of some stores. I'm a NYC native who loves to shop Fifth Avenue on Christmas Eve, and even I was overwhelmed.

But I guess I could always hide a few minutes in the Chapel of Love.

So is it worth going at least once to see? Is there anything to do around that area?

Paul Antonelli Lots to see in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Everything from the Guthrie Theatre and the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Museum of Russian Art to golf. Excellent restaurants and breweries too. We took a 1/2 day in an amazing old logging/port town, Stillwater. Tons of camping opportunities because Minnesota is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes." Actually,  11,842.

Lauren, have never been to Mall of America, and really don't enjoy shopping, sure it would be overwhelming.

Joan Cox We were there from 10:00AM - 2:00PM on a Tuesday and I still found it alarming. I can't imagine a holiday shopping day.

We lived in MN for  couple of years, and yes, it definitely was cold in the winters, far worse than New England. The Mall was built after we moved back to New England so we never got a chance to see it - it's pretty amazing from what I have seen and heard!

Jeff Dowler I'm taking this from the official website - 520 stores, 50 restaurants, it's the largest retail and entertainment center in North America and employs close to 12,000 people (that number is WONDERFUL!).
